Oscar Palacio passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on April 26, 2025. Born at home in Santa Paula, CA to Jose Avila Palacio, and Elena Mora. He was 94 years old. Oscar was the oldest of seven children; the late Conception (Connie) Rodriguez; Eddie Palacio; Frank Palacio; Theresa Jonk; Maria Pomodoro; and Joseph Palacio.
A mechanic by choice, and a self-made honey-do "Jack of all Trades," thanks to his imaginative late wife Shirley. Oscar and Shirley met on a blind date, and soon married in 1952. She once wrote in her journal that she loved his curly hair, and calm demeanor. He is survived by their four children, the late David Palacio; Lori Palacio; Steven Palacio; Karen Fourre (Bob Fourre); and Lisa Stoner (Jon Stoner). Oscar has eight cherished Grandchildren: Jason Murray; Jennifer Lewis; Laurette Estigoy; Thomas Bond Jr.; Gina Young; Carly Winzenburg; Jessica Dajao; Alex Sepulveda, and thirteen amazing Great-Grandchildren.
In his earlier years, Oscar worked at the Brick Yard in Port Chicago when first married. He then went to work at Jerry's Garage in Vallejo. Tired of renting, he finally had the chance to buy his own home in 1963, and remained there until his passing. Oscar resumed his work life with Firestone Tires for many years, before deciding to work for the Vallejo Unified School District as a night custodian, until he retired. There was no shortage of energy coming from this amazing man, given the nickname the Energizer Bunny by his daughter. Even into his 80's, he was working around his home; climbing up in trees for trimming and removal, and any household projects that needed his attention. His home went through many remodels, and an addition as the years rolled on. Together he and Shirley transformed their cherished property over and over, inside and out. Oscar always doing much of the work himself, and sometimes with the help from various family members. The couple loved gardening and had a beautiful garden that they worked together for many years. Once the kids were grown and gone, traveling around the country became their new hobby, and his beloved wife had no shortage of ideas. They went through three trailers and a camper, from beginning to end. He was the driver, and Shirley was the navigator. A match made in heaven! As the years progressed, cruises, and hotels replaced the trailer, and their adventures continued. Oscar, who wasn't the social butterfly like his wife, enjoyed family barbeques, and holiday get-togethers with his children, grandchildren, and eventually great-grandchildren the most. A true family man at heart, there is nothing that he wouldn't do to help those that he loved. The real essence of his beautiful soul was being dedicated to his family, taking care of business where needed, and enjoying the home, and life that he worked so hard to build. You are seen, you are loved, you are so tenderly missed.
A private family Celebration of Life will take place at his home on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
