Osmond U Ebanks, Sr., was born on March 5, 1930, in St.Elizabeth, Jamaica, West Indies, to Hernan Ebanks and Ritornella Campbell. He attended and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Portland, Jamaica in 1947. Osmond met his wife and life partner at an early age when he pursued her and finally got her to say yes. Seventy two years later they were blessed with eight children, 28 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
While in Jamaica, Osmond worked very hard to care for his family. He did not refuse any legitimate job that would provide for his family. This included leaving his family for a brief while to help construct Guantanamo Bay Cuba for the United States of America in the 60's. He also worked for the Public Works Department in Jamaica to assist other countrymen gain employment with the Jamaican government. Osmond was also a professional house painter and plasterer as his official occupation which was a valuable skill needed in the USA. With his wife's help and professional connection, he was sponsored by Cardinali Real Estate Company to work in the USA.
Thus, Osmond emigrated to the United States of America November 1968 with, at the time, seven children. He and his family settled in Brooklyn, New York. He started working for Cardinali right away and soon developed a prestigious reputation. He was able to build his portfolio and worked for other real estate groups fixing houses. This allowed him to venture out on his own as an entrepreneur and started his own company, Ebanco, as a subcontractor. The family thrived and allowed him to help others in need.
When the chance came for an opportunity to work for the city of New York, he took it.
With his impeccable qualifications, he applied and was accepted for a position as a housing inspector for the City of New York in 1979. He received an Associate degree in Drafting from the North American School of Drafting in 1987. He excelled in his position of Housing Inspector receiving numerous awards, accolades and promotions. He retired in 1996 with honors. He then moved to Florida and settled in Riverview. He lived there until his death Sep 20, 2025.
Osmond loved God, life and his family. He lived life to the optimum. He co-founded the Masonic lodge, Sunbeam Lodge #8, under the auspices of the Independent United Order of Mechanics F.S. Western Hemisphere Incorporated. He was the treasurer for approximately 40 years. He loved hosting and going to parties. Osmond was a great dancer, he could out dance any young person. Even as he aged, he had stamina, strength, proficient mental acuity, and displayed good judgment. HIs passions were fishing, gardening, fixing and building things, prepping his house with Christmas lights and contributing to Lotto.
Osmond Ebanks leaves behind his wife Sybil Ebanks; children: Dorrett Ebanks Machino, Osmond Jr., Yvonne (Ebanks) Clarke, Synado, Winston, Garth, Charmaine (Ebanks) Major, and David. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, in-laws, nephews, and nieces.
