Oh my, I have tried to write this many times and just can´t get through it and I apologize for that. Mr. Perez as I knew him. Dad of my best friend since 4th grade.
I have many memories but would like to share 3. As a young boy , Carlos being my best friend, we lived about 15 miles apart and met at the Christian School we attended. Carlos would stay at my house and I would stay at his on the weekends. My parents were not very social and I don´t remember any friends families visiting our house except for Mr. Perez. I vividly remember him, many of times sitting on the back patio with my dad and visiting while Carlos and I played. My dad always thought he was a gentleman and always loved visiting with him.
As the years went on , Carlos and I found girls. And not being of age to drive we counted on our parents, dads, for rides. We liked going to the local roller rink and pursuing girls and getting our energy out at the same time going left continuously for hours. My dad , was a go to bed early guy, so he would drop us off. Mr. Perez was always more than willing to come and get us somewhere around 11pm. Then there was the ride home in many times the TV van. Mr Perez owned a Tv repair shop and had a van to transport TVs around. I don´t believe there were any seats in the back. Carlos and I would take turns riding on some type of crate and holding onto the seat backs for the journey home. And of course no seat belts! Amazing we never had any issues.
My final memory I´m going to share, speed forward to my chosen profession of being an airline pilot and circumnavigating the world. One of my favorite things are all the different cultures and food. I have sat back many a times and thought where was my first international meal? Mr Perez of course! He made this steak and rice dish Cuban style of course. And I loved it! And he knew it. He was kind enough to make it for me many times over the years. My first International cuisine.
There are so many more stories but I´m going to cut it off there as I did his shirts.(inside joke to Carlos and Sam)
I will miss Mr Perez eternally and will have nothing but the BEST thoughts in his memory!
