Otis T. Smith Sr.

Otis T. Smith Sr., a loving and caring husband, father, and brother, entered eternal rest on December 22, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of eighty-six. He was born on October 23, 1939, in Cheapside, Texas, to the late I.G. Smith Sr. and Sylverta Cook Smith. He attended school in Gonzales, Texas.

Otis accepted Christ at an early age in Cheapside, Texas. His faith remained the foundation of his life, later leading him to become a devoted and faithful member of New Greater Matthew Baptist Church. There, he served under the leadership of Emeritus Pastor H.L. Powell and later under the direction of the late J.J. Rector Jr., where he served on the Finance Committee remaining faithful in his commitment to God until his health failed.

Otis married his high-school sweetheart in holy matrimony, Alta Mae Smith shortly after serving his county in the United States Army on February 18, 1967. And to this union, two children were born, Alicia and Otis Jr.

Otis had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found great joy in fishing, hunting, and tending to yardwork. A skilled mechanic, he proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he honored his mechanical expertise-skills he continued to use and enjoy long after his military service. Following his time in the Army, Otis worked as a truck driver for nearly 40 years, a career he carried out with dedication and pride until his retirement.

Otis was preceded in death by his parents, I.G. Smith Sr. and Sylverta Cook Smith; his sisters: Imogene Giles, Marie Homes, and Myrtle Johnson; and brothers: I.G. Smith Jr., Milton Smith and James Ray Smith.

Otis leaves to cherish his precious memory, his loving wife of 58 years, Alta Mae Smith; their daughter, Alicia Smith-Jones, and their son, Otis T. Smith Jr.; two sisters: Jesse Allen and Willie B. Smith, and God-daughter, Belind McKinney all of San Antonio, Texas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever remember his kindness, strength, and unwavering faith.

Otis T. Smith Sr. will be deeply missed, yet his legacy of love, service, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
