Otto Bodor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Craig Funeral Home on Mar. 4, 2024.
Otto Charles Bodor, 88, of Elkton, Florida passed away a few minutes after midnight on Saturday February 17, 2024 at the Bailey Center after a brief illness, surrounded by friends and family. He was born in Kisvárda, Hungary in 1935. Otto was the youngest of eight children and the only family member to leave his homeland during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. After studying at Germany's prestigious Stuttgart University on a refugee scholarship, his quota number came up and he was finally able to use the boat ticket that his uncle had sent him years earlier. After a short stay with relatives in Ohio, Otto relocated to Bridgeport, Connecticut where he played semi-professional soccer for Bridgeport Vasco da Gama, a team that participated in the "Connecticut Soccer League". It was at the team's Saturday night dinner dances where Otto met the love of his life and his future wife, Toni Page, a nursing student from Herefordshire, England.
Otto and Toni Bodor settled in Weston, Connecticut in the late Sixties and raised three sons: Christopher Bodor (St. Augustine, Florida; wife Mary Beth), Nicholas (NY City, New York; wife Judy), and Andrew (NY City, New York; wife Charlene). He is also survived by three grandchildren; Ashley-Marie Mendez (Gainesville, Florida; husband Manuel), Courtney Donechie (Charlotte, North Carolina; husband Dillon), Angus Bodor (NY City, New York) and one great-grandchild, the apple of his eye, Abigail.
In Connecticut, Otto enjoyed a successful career as a freelance mechanical engineer, working for Norco, AMD, and Pitney Bowes. In 2003 Otto relocated to Elkton, Florida and will be missed by his Coquina Crossing community. Otto was an avid tennis player, who loved billiards, bike riding, and swimming. Funeral arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Community Hospice - Bailey Center for Caring, in memory of Otto Bodor, 200 Health Park Blvd Flagler Hospital St. Augustine, FL 32086-5791.
