Ovidio Velez, 78 years of age passed away and went to be with our God on October 4, 2025. Ovidio is survived by his mother, Gloria; brothers, Efrain and Israel, and sister, Virginia; his two daughters, Mercy and Vanessa; his grandchildren, Danielle, Hannah, Amaya, Janessa, Anthony, Sky, Elijah, and Serenity; and his nephews and nieces.
Ovidio was retired and worked as a welder in San Diego, California building Navy ships for about 17 years. He retired in Joshua Tree, California with his late wife, Piedad. He was a family man, born in Lares, Puerto Rico. He came to the United States in his early twenties to Redwood City, California. There he met his wife, Piedad and had his first born, Richard. Shortly after his birth, they moved to San Diego, where they had their daughters, Mercy and Vanessa.
Ovidio loved our God. He served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. He would spark a conversation and talk with anyone about anything and God. He would help and lend a hand out to anyone, no matter what. He made many friends in Joshua Tree, and his friends got to know him as the one that would get lost in Walmart, not shopping, but spend hours talking with anyone inside the store. Ovidio loved being with this family, loved good food, loved worshipping, and above all, loved God. He is now with our Savior and will be missed immensely by his family and friends.
So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Ephesians 3 17-18
