It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Owen Cormier, who left us on January 8, 2026, just days shy of his 63rd birthday. Born on January 14, 1963, in Welsh, Louisiana, Owen spent his life as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, cherishing every moment he had with his family and friends.
Owen is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Katherine "Kathy" Cormier, as well as his beloved mother, Ruth Cormier, and father, Burley Cormier. He was a proud father to his sons, Scotty (Chasity) Cormier and Justin (Tina) Cormier, and a doting grandfather to Sammy (Lanie) Cormier, Jeremy (Gloria Billeaudeaux) Cormier, Destiny Cormier, Makayla Cormier, and Maddie Cormier. Owen also enjoyed the immeasurable joy of being a great-grandfather to Bryce Cormier and Leo Cormier. He leaves behind his loving siblings: sisters Joan (Ernie) Guillory and Julie Myers, and brothers Dan (Marsha) Cormier and Phil (Pam) Cormier, his life long best friend Ken Daniel, along with a wide circle of friends.
A lifelong public servant in Jeff Davis Parish, Owen started his journey at the young age of 18 as a laborer, working his way up to become a foreman and ultimately a Supervisor for the road maintenance department. His dedication to the community was evident through his role as an elected police juror, where he took pride in serving the people of the parish he loved so much.
Owen was known for his passion for fishing and making cherished memories at his camp with family and friends. Above all else, his family was his proudest achievement.
Visitation will be held at Miguez Funeral Home, starting with public viewing on January 9, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and continuing on January 10, 2026, at 8:00 AM.
A funeral service will be held Saturday January 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM, in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Darrell Hieronymus will be officiating the services for Mr. Owen as well as his mother, Ruth Cormier. Owen and Ruth will be cremated following the service under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jeff Davis Parish Animal Shelter in Owen's memory, as a tribute to his compassionate spirit.
