Owen Frank Ray

Wednesday, June 11, 1941 – Monday, September 8, 2025

Owen Frank Ray, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on June 11, 1941, in Jacksonville, Georgia, Frank's life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and the importance of family.

Mr. Ray was memorialized by cremation. The family wishes to express thanks for all of the kindness, thoughts and prayers shown to them. In honor of Frank's wishes, there will be a private memorial service for family at a later date. Also, to honor Mr. Ray's desire for privacy there will be no visitation.

Frank spent his formative years in the warm embrace of Jacksonville, where he was born to the late Henry Frank Ray and Dorothy Maloy Ray. His early life instilled in him a love for the land and the community that he would carry throughout his life.

After completing his education, Owen dedicated himself to serving his community as a Rural Mail Carrier for the US Postal Service. His friendly demeanor and unwavering reliability made him a beloved figure along his delivery routes. Frank's commitment to his work was matched only by his passion for farming.

Frank's heart belonged to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Pat Ray of Jacksonville, who has been his partner and confidante through the joys and challenges of life. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Frances Ray and Owen Henry Ray (Joy), both of Jacksonville. Frank took great pride in his role as a father, guiding his children with a gentle hand and an open heart.

The joy of Frank's life was further multiplied by his three grandchildren, Russ Ray (Janie) of McRae, Riley Ray, and Tuck Ray of Jacksonville. He cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom and sharing in their laughter. Frank's love extended to his sister, Robyn Vickers (Gary) of Douglas, and his sister-in-law, Donna Ray of Ohio, both of whom will miss his presence deeply. He will also be sadly missed by his niece and three nephews whom he cherished spending time with. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Dorothy Ray and his brother, Harry Ray.

Frank's life was one of quiet strength and enduring love. He was a man who spoke through his actions, a trait that earned him the respect of all who knew him.

As we bid farewell to Owen Frank Ray, we remember a life lived with purpose and grace. His legacy is one of love, hard work, and the simple pleasures of life. Frank's memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. He will be deeply missed, but the seeds of kindness and integrity he planted in this world will continue to grow and flourish for generations to come.

Earlier today

I remember "Little Frank", as he was called when we were growing up in Jacksonville many years ago. He and I were stationed together briefly at a Naval base in Maryland in the early 60s.

Then I talked to him several times when he was the mail carrier for my folks there outside of Jacksonville.

Rest in peace, old friend.
