P. William "Hoss" Rutledge, 74, of Carrollton, passed away peacefully Monday evening, July 14, 2025, at Aultman Hospital in Canton.
Born August 3, 1950, in Canton, Ohio, he was a son of the late R. Herbert and Patricia Eick Rutledge.
Known by many in the community as "Hoss," Bill was a lifelong servant, helper, and friend to all who knew him.
For many years, he was a dedicated member of both the Carrollton and Carroll County Volunteer Fire Departments. His passion for service extended beyond firefighting-he ran ambulance services with Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home, METS, and EMT, and was a certified CPR instructor who helped countless people learn life-saving skills.
Bill was a committed Red Cross volunteer, gave his time generously to 4-H programs, and was a lifetime member of the Carroll County Historical Society. He worked for many years at Republic Steel before retiring, and in retirement, remained active in the community, especially through his involvement with the Senior Citizens Center.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barb Snively; his children: Michele Rutledge, Chris (Tessa) Rutledge, and Jason (Jami) Rutledge; and his cherished grandchildren: Zacary, Edin, Kyle, Tavis, Jazmin, and Ariona.
Also surviving are his brothers, Phill (Terry) Rutledge and Tom (Debbie) Rutledge; and sisters, Amy and Anne Rutledge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Alice.
A celebration of life will be held at the Carrollton VFW on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 4 – 10 p.m., where friends and family will gather to honor a man who gave so much of himself to others.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Hoss's memory to the Carroll County Friendship Center, 100 Kensington Road, Carrollton, OH 44615.
