Pablo Domingo Acosta, 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Son of the late Juan and Luisa (Garcia) Acosta, he was born in Cuba on January 15, 1940. In 1969, he emigrated to the United States, settling in Yonkers, NY. He has resided in Dutchess County for nearly 30 years.
Pablo retired as Superintendent for the St. Andrew's Assisted Living Facility in Yonkers, NY. He previously worked for several companies including Phelps Dodge Cable Company.
At the age of 13 in Cuba, he joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and remained an active member for the rest of his life, including an active stint with the organization's Lodge in the Bronx.
He enjoyed cooking and baking, especially preparing meals for relatives and friends. He was a patriotic American who maintained great pride in his Cuban roots and culture. More than anything else, however, he cherished his family, especially his grandchildren.
On December 2, 1961, he married the love of his life, Margarita Hernandez Acosta, in Havana, Cuba. After 61 years of marriage, Pablo was predeceased by Margarita on January 25, 2023.
Survivors include his daughter, Maura Ronda; his son, Juan Acosta & his wife Magdalena; his son, Jose Acosta & his wife Orsola; his grandchildren: Nina Acosta, Prisilla Acosta, Jonah Acosta, Cristina Acosta, Michael Acosta, Victoria Ronda, and Joseph Ronda; his great-grandchildren: Myles, Emma, and Joseph; in addition to many other loving family members & dear friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Pablo was also predeceased by his siblings.
Calling hours will be held from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday, October 12 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A service will take place at the funeral home at 10:30am on Monday, October 13 followed by interment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill, NY.
In recognition of Pablo's patriotism, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veteran charity of one's choice.
