Pamela Streit Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Pamela Sue Streit announce her passing on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at her home in DeFuniak Springs, FL following a courageous and determined fight with cancer.

Weighing a tiny 3+ pounds at her birth on April 6, 1966, in Hamilton, OH, little Pamela fought to survive then and that trait strengthened throughout her 59 years of life. She attended Buchanan Elementary and St. Mary Grade School in Hamilton prior to the family's move to Destin, FL in 1975. Following the move, Pam attended Destin Elementary, Brunner Middle School and graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School in 1984. Her gift of painting came to light at this time and was encouraged by her art teacher at FWBHS.

Pam continued painting beautiful artwork throughout her life. Many pieces, shared with family and friends, are destined to become family heirlooms. Pam's work life was very diverse. Early on, she held several retail positions, she also worked at an animal clinic in Destin and in the Oncology Dept. at the University of Missouri. Her interests in the health field led her to become a certified EMT while in Missouri. She was a wine taster while living in Canada and worked at an animal rescue venue in Freeport, FL. But Pam truly found a second family when she became the Customer Service Specialist at the South Walton Fire District, where she was employed at the time of her death.

Pam's talents and interests were immeasurable, which helped define who she was. As mentioned, she loved painting and her tremendous love for the beach was evident in many of her creations. She crafted jewelry, created new life for discarded household furniture and goodness did she love collecting glassware as we have recently discovered in every nook and cranny of her home. She was also an exceptional cook, sharing that talent with many over the years, and she was a masterful gardener. Also, all who knew Pam were aware that she was an avid lover of nature and animals, especially her treasured pets.

Pam was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Margaret Streit and brother Herb Streit as well as her beloved dog, Porto. She leaves behind her beloved children, Katherine (Josh) Conyers and Matthew Lucas, and grandchildren Hadley and Hudson Conyers who she cherished. She also leaves seven siblings, Grace (Bill) Riegert, Mary (Dick) Tharp, Leo (Bonnie) Streit, Gail (Tom) Manuel, Donald (Monica) Streit, Debbie (Larry) Hughes and Vicki (Joe) Tarro, numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of other family and friends. Pam also leaves her precious dogs, Iris and Goose.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service held at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Rd., Fort Walton Beach, FL Saturday, Sept. 6, 1:00-3:00 p.m. with the service starting at 2:00 p.m. www.emeraldcoastfuneralhome.com

In lieu of flowers we suggest a memorial donation to the South Walton Fire District, 911 N. County Highway 393 Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459 or to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486 or MDAnderson.org/Gifts.
