Panagiotis Nikolopoulos

Panagiotis Nikolopoulos 77, of Rutherford formerly of Astoria, NY passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Born in Sfendami, Greece to the late Stiliani and Thomas Nikolopoulos and came to the United States in 1982. Before retiring, Panagiotis was a marble and granite specialist. Panagiotis is survived by his former wife; Jacqueline Esmez, his sons; Thomas and Harry Nikolopoulos, his sisters; Eleni Nikolopoulou and Dimitra Terzoglou, his brothers; Takis Nikolopoulos and the late Pavlos Nikolopoulos. His nephews and nieces; Thomas Nikolopoulos, Simos Nikolopoulos, Rico Nikolopoulos, Stella Nikolopoulou, Thomas (Makis) Nikolopoulos, Stella Nikolopoulou and Pachalis Nikolopoulos, Katerina Terzoglou, and Nikiforos Terzoglou, and great nephew, Vaggelis Choutas.
Panagiotis stayed very close to Jackie and his children. He was a selfless, good-hearted man, pure, simple, and honest. That is how he lived his life. If anyone needed anything, he was there. Panagiotis was a traditional person. Born in a small village in the Pieria region of Greece, he migrated to the United States in 1982 where he was a marble-granite specialist. He was very good at what he did and his work was phenomenal. Panagiotis was always helping others, he would help his mother and sister Eleni, who was called "Nitsa".
Panagiotis grew up in a time that demanded strength, resilience and deep faith. He carried those values with him throughout his life.
He loved his homeland, but above all, he loved his family. He loved spending time at the local Kafenio in Astoria, where he would talk and play cards. When he wasn't there, he would be helping out at home with renovations, marble and granite installations, or with a friend or family member who needed help. This was his passion: helping. Even at the age of 16, he was helping in his home village, Sfendami, where he completed electrical wiring for the town.
Panagiotis was a man of integrity who spoke with honesty and lived with honor. He worked hard, not just to provide for his family, but to set an example for them. He taught his children, Thomas and Harry, that respect must be earned, that love is shown in actions, and that faith is important.
One thing about Panagiotis was that in times of joy, he was full of happiness, but in times of hardship, he always remained strong. In times of doubt, he would always say: "Everything will be alright, don't worry". Panagiotis was always very positive. He will be missed.
Funeral Liturgy from St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church 51 Paramus Rd. in Paramus on Tuesday, July 15th at 11:30 AM. Entombment following at Maryrest Mausoleum in Mahwah. Visitation on Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at Costa Memorial Home Boulevard and Central Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights.
