Pastor Jerry Smith, age 75, of Valley Grande, Alabama passed away peacefully into his heavenly home on June 11, 2025. He was born March 16, 1950 and devoted his life to serving God and others, ministering faithfully for 37 years.
Over the course of his ministry, Pastor Smith shepherded congregations at Statesville Church of God, Aliceville Church of God and True Holiness House of Worship. Known for his deep compassion, unwavering commitment and a signature sense of humor, he had a special gift for making people feel seen, heard and loved. Whether it was a joyful celebration or a moment of deep sorrow, Pastor Smith was always just a phone call away – ready to pray comfort or share a well-time, story or joke.
His love for God’s word was evident not only in his preaching, but in how he lived. He found joy in drawing and spent countless hours reading his Bible, drawing strength and inspiration from his favorite passage; Romans 8:28
He was preceded in death by his fathers, Sam Smith and James Campbell; his mother, Irene Campbell; sister, Betty Headley and brothers, Sam Smith, Jr. and Ed Smith.
Pastor Smith is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa Smith; children, Katherine Smith, Joshua Smith and Sam (Chrisy) Smith; his beloved grandchildren, Parker Smith, Sam Smith and Addison Smith; sister, Donna (Jeff) Vining; brothers, Mike (Betty) Smith and Ted Smith; many nieces and nephews and close nieces, Candace Downam, Deidre Averette, Stephanie Godwin and Christy Barr and close nephew, Michael Barr.
To those who knew Pastor Jerry Smith, he was more than a pastor – he was a friend, a counselor, a mentor and a faithful servant of the Lord. His legacy of love, laughter and unwavering faith will continue to touch lives for generations to come.
A celebration of his life will be Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home At Pineview in Valley Grande with Bro. Pat Grindle officiating. Interment will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Valley Grande, beginning at 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Vining, James Smith, Michael Barr, Stephen Averette, James Godwin and Mathew Pruitt.
