James Henry “Pastor Jim” Greene, 66, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Sanford Health Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Pastor Jim was born on September 18, 1958, to Oscar and Katherine (Springer) Greene in Fort Wayne, IN. He grew up in Fort Wayne where he attended and graduated from high school. He then attended Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, where he graduated with his Master of Divinity. His first calling was in Gary, MN, where he served Gary Lutheran Parish. During his ministry at Gary, he met Susan Chisholm, and they were later married on June 11, 1988, in Twin Valley, MN. After their marriage, they moved to Hawley, MN, where he served at Hawley Lutheran Church for a brief period. He then moved to Fargo, ND, serving as a Chaplain for Drake Counseling Services, and soon after, served as an associate pastor at Olivet Lutheran Church for a number of years before service as a Chaplain at the Fargo hospitals for many years. His true calling came soon after, when he began his ministry with Gran-Park-Rollag Lutheran Parish. Serving Gran-Park-Rollag has been the best years of his life. The churches, and their congregations held a special place in his heart.

Jim was very curious and enjoyed learning new things and could usually be found reading a book. He’d love to start his day by meditating and journaling, writing whatever came to mind. He enjoyed woodworking, Packers Football, Twins Baseball, and DQ ice cream cake with the kids. He was actively involved in the AA program and the Serenity Prayer was an important part of his life. He loved to laugh and get lost in a conversation with family, friends, or any stranger he’d meet. He cared so much for every person that crossed his path and always put the person in front of him first. He had a deep love for his family, especially his favorite daughter, favorite middle son, and favorite youngest son. He touched the lives of many and he will be missed by all.

Pastor Jim is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Susan; children, Hannah (Alex) Becher, Zach (Jamie Motschenbacher) Greene, and Isaiah Greene; grandchildren, Rainy, Chevy, Raiden, and Finnley Becher; siblings, Jeanne Greene and David Greene; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Katherine; and siblings, Jerry and Debbie Greene.

Visitation will be from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M., followed by the prayer service at 6:30 P.M., Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Rollag Lutheran Church, Rollag, MN. Visitation will continue from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 27, 2024, at Hawley High School, Hawley, MN. A livestream of the service will be available on his webpage at www.wrighfuneral.com where a guestbook and video tribute may also be found. A time for fellowship will follow immediately afterwards at the gathering hall in Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN. Burial will be at Rollag Lutheran Church Cemetery, Rollag, MN, following the services in Hawley.
