Patricia Allen Mower Barnes (Pat), a vibrant and fierce spirit known for her adventurous heart and unwavering compassion, passed away at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and generosity. Cherished as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her adventurous soul, her love of family, music, horses, and motorcycles, and her boundless energy and eternal optimism that inspired everyone around her.
Born on February 15, 1939, in Roanoke, VA, Pat's early life was shaped by her upbringing in an Army family, which took her across the globe from grade school in Japan to high school in Germany. Her passion for education shone through as she taught English in Iraq, fostering understanding and connection across cultures. Eventually, she returned to Washington, DC, where she met her beloved husband and best friend, Pete Barnes. They married in 1964 (would have been 60 years in Oct). Together, they moved to Ohio, laying down roots and building a loving family.
In 1973, Patricia and Pete discovered the charm of Centerburg, Ohio, where family, horses, motorcycles, and boating became the foundation of their lives. A dedicated advocate for her children's activities, Patricia was deeply involved in the PTA, 4-H, and the US Pony Club, always encouraging her children to pursue their passions.
After her children entered high school, Patricia returned to the workforce as a successful printing salesperson, gaining respect and admiration in her field. Upon retirement, she and Pete embraced their passion for adventure, embarking on BMW motorcycle trips that took them across the country, Canada, and Mexico, often logging over 20,000 miles each year. Their spirited presence at BMW motorcycle rallies made them beloved members of the biking community.
An accomplished pianist, Patricia delighted family and friends with her musical talent at gatherings and motorcycle events, showcasing her creativity and warmth. She was also a dedicated volunteer, lending her time and expertise to the Knox County Extension office as a Master Gardener and proudly participating as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Patricia is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Pete Barnes; her children, Lisa (Gregory Durham) and Chris (Dawn Miller); her cherished grandchildren, Preston and Reegan; her dear sister, Natalie Brock; and three nieces / nephew, Trish (Rick) Keagan, Jim Brock, and Sherry Brock Ransbottom.
In celebrating Patricia's life, we remember her not just for her accomplishments but for her indomitable spirit, her love for family and friends, and her unwavering zest for life. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts.
A celebration of Patricia's life will be announced at a later date, inviting family and friends to share their stories and honor her legacy.
