Patricia Bart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haben Funeral Home & Crematory on Nov. 25, 2024.
Patricia Marie "Pat" / "Patsy" Bart, née Carey, age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Pat was born to Helen and John Carey in Chicago, Illinois, on July 11, 1939. She married George Raymond Bart on August 12, 1961, to whom she was married for over 63 years until her death.
Loving mother of David (Julia) and Gregory (Rosa); adoring grandmother of John (Laurie), Michael, Veronica, and Brianna; proud great-grandmother to Lila and Holly; fond sister of the late Jacqueline (Thomas) Mitchell. Pat is also survived by her brother-in-law, Daniel (Georgia); a niece and nephews; and her many cousins throughout the Chicago and Washington, D.C., areas.
Patricia was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago in St. Rita of Cascia Parish where she attended grammar school. She graduated from Maria High School in 1957. And she was the first-ever female mathematics major at Loyola University of Chicago, graduating in 1961. Later, she earned a Master's Degree in Special Education from Northeastern University in Chicago. Patricia was a tireless, dedicated, and life-long teacher - and was certified to teach all academic subjects from kindergarten through 12th grade. After beginning her career at Oakview Junior High School in Skokie (now McCracken Middle School), she taught Special Education in Highland Park at Edgewood Junior High School for almost 40 years. Upon retirement, she taught as a volunteer for another two decades in Chicago at St. Thomas of Canterbury School. In addition, she virtually tutored numerous students in algebra from Illinois and throughout the nation during the COVID pandemic and until the last month before her death - and always free of charge. She lived in Skokie, Illinois, for over 55 years. Her passions included playing her piano, spending time in her garden, and reading about archeology. Above all, Patricia loved teaching children, and her life was completely devoted to faith, hope, and charity.
Patricia Carey Bart is dearly missed by her family, friends and numerous students.

I had the privilege of working with Pat in Highland Park. She always offered kindness and warmth to every student she served. Her passing is a great sadness. My condolences to her caring family members.
