Patricia Carbine Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Aldous Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Rutland on Jun. 16, 2025.
Patricia Anne "Patty" Carbine – 1967-2025
Having lived a life full of laughter and kindness, Patty Anne Carbine, age 57, of Rutland, Vermont, left us too soon on June 10, 2025, for her next great adventure.
Patty was born on July 21, 1967, to Irene Sherowski and John Frederick Carbine, Jr, at the Rutland Hospital, weighing 5 lbs., 2 oz. She spent her childhood on Litchfield Avenue with her beloved sister, Leslie, and her humorous brother, John Frederick "Freddy." Along with her first cousins, Jack, Gary, Stephanie and Becky, the gang was inseparable and remained close throughout Patty's all-too-short life.
Patty attended Christ the King School and MSJ where she received the distinguished honor of being crowned "Pumpkin Princess", later serving as a judge for the competition. After graduating from the College of Saint Joseph the Provider with a degree in social work, Patty began a work-life centered around caregiving. From her work at Friends in Adoption, to her role at a local preschool and at the Rutland Free Library, Patty was at her best when she was helping people. While Patty didn't choose social work as her permanent vocation, she embraced the social work spirit of helping people address challenges and improve their well-being.
Patty was the consummate "social butterfly," taking the initiative to engage with everyone. She had a gift for networking and bringing people together. Patty never met a stranger, only someone who may need a friend. Her love of cooking was predominant and most weekends, you'd find her over the stove preparing a recipe from memory or engrossed in a cooking show. She had a gift for it and never used a written recipe, just like her beloved Babci.
Step aerobics, Zumba, ThighMaster, combined with teaching and practicing dance at Mary Byrne's Dance Studio with her sister Leslie, all kept Patty young. Her energy was infectious, her kindness freely given, and a smile always offered. It was hard to keep Patty down. She loved spending time with her friends, her family, and her cousins and couldn't leave a gathering without kissing everyone in the room goodbye. Her family and friends called it the "Patty Goodbye."
Patty was predeceased by her father, J. Fred Carbine Jr., her sister Leslie, her godfather, Henry Sherowski, her Aunt Mary, her Uncle Jack, her Aunt Kathleen, and her first cousins, Shawnee Gager and Jack Rogers Jr. She leaves behind a legion of friends and family to carry on her legacy of compassion and kindness – these include her mother Irene, her brother J. Fred III, her aunt and uncle, Tony and Betty DeBlois, her aunt and uncle, Ed and Mary Sherowski, her Aunt Fran Sherowski and her cousins, Gary Rogers, Stephanie Sherman, Becky Rogers, Kimberly Gager-Daley, Michael DeBlois, Jennifer Marrone, Beth Knotts and Steven Sherowski.
A celebration of Patty's life will take place on June 19, 2025, at 10 am, at Saint Peter Church in Rutland, Vermont. Calling hours will be held at Aldous Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, between the hours of 4 pm and 6 pm.
Donations in Patty's honor can be made to: The Foley Cancer Center at https://donate.rrmc.org; and The Rutland Free Library, 10 Court St, Rutland, VT (checks can be mailed to the attention of Darby Gorham; please reference "Patty Carbine" in the memo).
