Obituary published on Legacy.com by Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home - Peterstown on Apr. 15, 2025.
Our Dear Mother, Daughter, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Community Leader & Friend went home in God's arms after losing her battle to dementia on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV, at the young age of 85.
She was born in Rich Creek, VA, on January 29, 1940, to the late Joseph and Irene Meredith. After graduating high school in 1958, she started her first job at the Giles County Courthouse as a clerk. On February 15, 1960, she transferred jobs and began her career as a teller at the Celco Employees Federal Credit Union until 1985, when the Credit Union moved to its new and now location and changed its name to the Celco Community Federal Credit Union, where she was a loan officer, then after 43 years of service to her community retired as the Visa Coordinator.
Patty had a huge heart with endless love to give. So much so, she became a foster mother to a young boy named Rick. When her and her husband, Cecil Crotty, were married on April 7, 1979, together they adopted Rick and made their family whole. Patty often said they saved her as much as she saved them. She loved her family, as she said, to the moon and back, they were the ones that lit up her life. Which was the song by Debby Boone that Patty and Rick danced to at Rick's wedding in 2022.
After her husband's passing in 2010, she became a part of the Foreign Exchange Student Program, where she host-mothered 3 high school students from Taiwan and Thailand to whom she cared for like they were her own and were forever considered her bonus children until her final day.
After a few years of retirement, Patty decided to reenter the workforce and started working at Kids Connection Child Daycare as well as the Child Daycare Program at the Adult Daycare Center, both in Pearisburg, VA.
In 2022 Patty Moved to WV to live with her son Rick and his WV family, which included Patty's new granddaughter Gracie, who she called "Sweet Girl." She loved telling Gracie Sunday school stories and teaching her about the bible.
Patty was the type of person that if you met her, you loved her. And if she loved you, she did it with her whole heart. She will be greatly missed by her community in Narrows, VA, and surrounding areas, as well as her family and the ones that came to know her in her final 3 years of life in her final home in WV.
Today, Patty is welcomed home by the ones she has loved and missed for so long, including her loving husband of 31 years, Cecil Crotty; as well as her parents, Joseph and Irene Meredith; her brothers, Emory and Clarence Meredith; a sister, Elen Harry; and other special friends and loved ones. As well as her fur babies, who were like her children, Precious and Tasha.
The ones left to cherish and share the legacy she left with us include her son, Rick Crotty and husband Anthony of Beckley WV; four grandchildren, Gracie, Candice, Ryan, and Tara; and four great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
We would like to give a special thank you to The Bowers Hospice House for taking such good care of Patty in her final days, as well as her very good friend, Karen Copland, for making sure mom looks her very best for her service.
