In loving memory of Patricia (Ann) Pates Dawson, age 73, of Plainfield, New Jersey, who passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished
sister, and a beacon of inspiration to many. Known affectionately as 'Pat,' she dedicated her life to
serving her family and others through unwavering faith and enthusiastic support for all she
encountered.
Born to the loving union of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pates in Los Angeles, California, Pat excelled
both academically and as a community leader. Throughout her educational journey, she consistently
demonstrated academic and leadership prowess, consistently ranking in the top ten percent of her class
through high school. Holding various leadership positions in middle and high school, such as Student
Body President, Vice President and other positions. Also, she was deeply involved in her church, guiding
youth organizations to nurture Christian values and character development.
Having attended John C. Fremont High School, UC Santa Barbara for her undergraduate studies in
mathematics, and earning a Masters of Statistics from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Patricia's
sharp intellect and strong work ethic shone brightly throughout her career. Beginning her professional
journey at Northorp Corporation after UC Santa Barbara, she caught the eye of Xerox Corporation
executives and was hired due to her exceptional performance. Subsequently, she was hired by AT&T.
However, the corporate environment did not align with her aspirations, leading her to
entrepreneurship. Focusing primarily on developing human potential, Patricia established and
spearheaded programs centered on education, personal development, and empowerment, including
math tutoring, professional support for mothers facing economic hardship, and life skills training for
displaced workers.
Patricia leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by her husband of 46 years, Emory
Dawson, and their three children: eldest son Ian Dawson, his wife Shannon, and their daughter Emery;
daughter Jessica Dawson; and youngest son Robert Dawson. She is also remembered fondly by her
brother Rodney Pates, his wife DeGina, and their children Lia, Vincent, and Linzey. Additionally, she will
be deeply missed by a multitude of relatives and close friends. While she may have departed from this
physical realm, her spirit of joy, encouragement and support will always be remembered.
