Patricia DiPrete Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Butterfield Home and Chapel Funeral and Cremation Services from Jul. 8 to Jul. 10, 2025.
Patricia A. DiPrete (Raimondo) "Pat" of Johnston, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025 with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Nancy (Zaino) Raimondo and devoted wife of the late Anthony DiPrete.

Pat's guided force throughout life has been love. She met the love of her life at 14 years old. They married in 1965, started a family and bought their home in West Warwick in 1972. While raising her family Pat opened her home to many families offering childcare services. Pat ran her daycare from the late 1970's to 1988. During this time, Pat enjoyed spoiling all the children who came into her home planning daily activities, field trips and holiday parties. Her children were a big part of her childcare, happily helping out after school. During this time, Pat was a volunteer leader for Camp Fire Girls where she ran activities and camping trips for her troop and her two oldest daughters. During the 1970s and 1980s Pat explored her creativity by making her children's clothes and Halloween costumes, knitting blankets and ponchos and making cakes! Not only did Pat enjoy eating sugary treats she also enjoyed making them! Pat made beautiful cakes for her family and friends to enjoy for their birthday parties and get togethers. Through her business "Cakes by Pat" she made tiered cakes, themed cakes and character cakes. She loved creating and putting a smile on everyone's face. Although she did not have her business any longer, Pat made her daughter's wedding cake in 2001.

Throughout the 1980's Pat and her husband Tony supported their family providing the best opportunities and memories for their children. They provided Catholic education, family vacations and various extracurricular activities. One of their favorites was when Tony and his girls were a part of the Riverpoint Young Girls Softball League. Tony was Coach and the President of the league and his girls played. During their time at the field, Tony and Pat made lifelong friends. In 1988, Pat decided to close her home daycare, and she joined Joyful Noise Childcare center in West Warwick. She enjoyed her time working in Pre-K classrooms and after-school care. Pat loved planning activities, playing games, creating bulletin boards and doing for others. After her husband passed in 2004 Pat decided to retire from Joyful Noise in 2006. Pat celebrated her 60th birthday and kept herself busy with family, friends, and spoiling her grandchildren. Pat's retirement did not last very long; however, she returned to work and became a teacher's assistant at Our Lady of Mercy School in East Greenwich. Pat loved to work! She loved helping the teachers and staff at Our Lady of Mercy and being with the children. Pat spoke very fondly of those she worked with, and she loved being busy and helpful. Pat continued working at Our Lady of Mercy until 2023 when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. During her treatments, she often would mention how much she missed going to work and she always was looking forward to returning someday. Thank you to the staff and families at Our Lady of Mercy who always treated Pat with kindness and love. Your messages, gifts thoughts and prayers meant the world to her.

Throughout Pat's life, she has always worked by example. Through love, hard work and perseverance, her example had been extended to her 4 children. They watched her live life to the fullest, struggle and pick herself back up. She was a fighter and cherished each and every moment that she had with her family and her friends. Her greatest joys were celebrating birthdays and holidays by cooking delicious Italian meals for her family, baking with her grand and great grandchildren, having her family together as much as she could, playing bingo, going apple, strawberry and blueberry picking, spoiling her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and planting and caring for her vegetable garden. She loved supporting her children and grandchildren and then great grandchildren and some of her fondest memories have been the family vacations where her family could all be under one roof enjoying each other's company. Through love Pat lived her life. Through love we will celebrate her. Pat told her son "Don't be sad, I am going to go see daddy. I have waited 21 years" We ask that all those who come to celebrate Pat to wear shades of blue and to honor her life through memories and laughter.

Patricia is survived by her four children Joanne DiPrete of North Providence, Jennifer Cummiskey of Johnston, Joseph DiPrete (Victoria) of Coventry and Jacqueline Edsall (Damien) of Johnston, sisters Nancy Berek (Richard Bedard) of Coventry and Roseanne Smith (Albert) of Exeter. Pat was the proud grandmother to Ashli Spearman (Nathan), Antonio and Alycia DiPrete, Joyce Howard, Risa and Nolan Cummiskey, Mary, Timothy, Thomas, Gianna and Alina Edsall. She was also the great-grandmother of Joshua, Liliana and Elisa Spearman, Rosalie Adorno and Eliana Goncalves. Pat also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was the sister of the late Marie Raimondo.
