In Loving Memory of Patricia Ann Fitzgerald

Patricia Ann Fitzgerald, a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and generous friend, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025 at the age of 72.

Born in Urbana, Illinois to Agnes and Dr. Joseph Tobias, she spent her life dedicated to her family and her community. She was the beloved wife of Kevin Fitzgerald, with whom she shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Their partnership was built on love, laughter, unwavering support, and questionable dance skills. Hollywood couldn’t script a more perfect love story.

She was the cherished mother of four children: Kathleen, Michael, Patrick and Megan, who were the center of her world. Beloved Patrick escorted her into Heaven with all the fanfare she deserved.

Her heart grew fuller when she welcomed her children’s spouses, Beth, John, and David into the family and with the arrival of her six grandchildren: Chelsea, Madison, Emma Kate, Tobias, Carter, and Anna. Each one believes he or she was Nana’s favorite. She adored her family and spoiled them rotten.

Her family remembers her as someone who made everything, and everyone, feel special. She had a gift for planning beautiful celebrations, whether it was a birthday party, holiday gathering, or a simple Sunday dinner. Her warmth and creativity brought people together and created lasting memories. Like magic, she turned ordinary things into extraordinary treasures. She did everything just a little better than everyone else.

Fiercely loyal, she was deeply committed to her friends and community. Her compassion, kindness, and selflessness touched the lives of many. It would be impossible to count the number of lasagnas, crocheted blankets, gift baskets, and iced sugar cookies she delivered to her friends. We will particularly miss her ghost cookies.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 5pm to 7pm at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in her honor to the Assistance League of Greater Wilmington, 420 Eastwood Rd, #107, Wilmington, NC 28403 or Nourish, NC, 3606 Market St, Wilmington, NC 28403.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and generosity that will continue to inspire and unite us all. She will be deeply missed.
