Patricia May (McBride) Furr, 83, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on November 30, 2024, surrounded by loving family and her cherished dog, Freckles.
Pat was born in 1941 in Cushing, Oklahoma, to Effie and Robert McBride as the youngest of 17 children. She graduated from Cushing Public Schools and married Rodney Hawkins, with whom she had her first child, Kimberly. After Rodney's passing, Pat began working for Southwestern Bell to provide for her family.
While attending court reporting school in Amarillo, Texas, Pat met Jerry Furr. They married, settled in Oklahoma City, and welcomed two more children, Heather and Chris. Pat worked evening shifts to stay home with her children during the day, embodying her role as a devoted mother. She celebrated her family's accomplishments, big and small, and served as a confidante and friend to everyone she loved.
Pat faced profound loss again when Jerry passed away in 1979. Still, her resilience shone through as she continued raising her children and supporting them through hard work and unwavering love. She worked for Southwestern Bell for over 20 years and later joined the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, dedicating several years to public service before retiring.
In her personal time, Pat found joy in playing the piano and organ, reading, and welcoming friends and neighbors who often stopped by for her warm company. Known for her kindness and compassion, she had a unique gift for making everyone feel like the most important person in her world. She adored her family and friends, but her pets held a special place in her heart, providing her with companionship and joy throughout her life.
In 2020, Pat moved in with her daughter Kimberly, son-in-law David, and grandson Grant, who provided extraordinary love during her final years. She was also supported and cared for by her grandchildren Zachariah and Montana Groat, her niece Linda Dildine, and her dear friends Rosalina Sanchez and Melanie Hall. Their kindness and selflessness brought Pat comfort and peace, and they are deeply appreciated by all who loved her.
Pat was preceded in death by many beloved family members, including her beloved grandson Zachariah Groat, great-granddaughter Arayah Autry, and close friends Ann and James Hall. She is survived by her loving children, Heather Furr, Kimberly Sanders and her husband David, and Chris Furr and his wife Kathryn; her grandchildren, Thomas Welton and his wife Emily, Tiffani Welton, Shelby Sanders, Grant Sanders, Montana Groat and her partner Travis Autry, Lillian Furr, Olivia Furr, and Eloise Furr; and her great-grandchildren, Mason Welton, Adalee Welton, Remi Welton, Willie White Jr., Elijah White, Kehlani Welton, and Nevaeh Autry.
Pat's warmth, laughter, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Interim Hospice and Frontier Hospice for their exceptional kindness and care during Pat's final years.
A graveside service/celebration of her life will be April 26, 2025, at 11:00 am at Lawson Cemetery, Yale, OK.
