Patricia Ann Gillis passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 28, 2025. She was born on April 29, 1946, to Martha and Carl Gillis. Four years later, the family was complete with the birth of her brother, Paul Douglas Gillis, on September 3, 1950.
Patty grew up in a loving family, surrounded by her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She earned her teaching degree from UNC–Greensboro and dedicated her life to education. For 34 years, she taught first grade at North Canton Elementary School, where she touched countless young lives with patience, kindness, and joy.
A devoted member of Clyde Central Methodist Church, Patty kept the nursery during worship services for more than 30 years. Her church family and neighbors were a constant source of love and fellowship. She built lasting friendships and found joy in relationships that became like family, including Nelda and Terry Scroggs, their daughter Melanie, and granddaughter Isabella. She also cherished the support of her neighbors, especially Bonnie and Sharon Shook.
Patty is survived by her brother, Paul, her sister-in-law, Robyn, and their family. She held a special place in her heart for her nephew, John Paul Gillis, his wife Brittney, and their children, Deacon and Callahan, as well as for her niece, Jacquelyn Carlyle Gillis Olive, along with her husband Jon and stepdaughter Sophia. Her love for her family was deep and unwavering, and it will be cherished in their hearts forever.
Heaven welcomed Patty home, where she was embraced by the angels who preceded her. When you see a rainbow or hear the birds singing, think of Patty and the gentle joy she brought to those who knew her. We are deeply blessed to have shared her life.
At Patty's request, no formal services will be held.
