Patricia "Patty" Sue Haskell, age 91, of El Dorado, Kansas, went home to meet her Savior, Jesus Christ on February 15th, 2025, at Homestead Senior Living Center. Patty was surrounded by her loving girls as she fulfilled her incredible life journey.
Patty was born on July 30th, 1933, to Clifton G. Grove and Pearl G. (Johnson), in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She spent the first 7 years of her childhood in Oklahoma, before moving to El Dorado, Kansas with her family. She graduated with the class of '51 from El Dorado High School. She married the love of her life, Harold L. Haskell, on February 17th, 1952, at the El Dorado First Baptist Church. He preceded her in passing on January 2nd, 2011.
Patty assisted her parents in running their grocery store business and worked as a secretary for Boeing for some time. Her most rewarding job of all, however, was taking care of the family home and being a homemaker. She was a dedicated, loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a surrogate mother to a group of girls referred to as "the YaYa's" as well as many nieces and nephews. Patty knew no strangers and always kept the light on in her kitchen for anyone who might need to stop in for a glass of iced tea, a cup of coffee, or freshly baked pastry. She loved deeply and made feel exceptional, everyone she knew. Thanks to the exceptional care provided by the caregivers at Homestead, despite her failing health, Patty was able to keep a hot pot of coffee at the ready, as well as a jar of fresh lemon cookies, her favorite.
Patty was a passionate advocate for special needs children and adults. She was a member of the First Christian Church and many different bridge clubs over the years. She was a talented seamstress, making costumes, prom dresses, Papa's pillow covers, Halloween costumes, curtains, and suit coats. Patty's love language was giving and hospitality, as she loved to cook and feed people her scrumptious homemade food. Her family remembers her fried pies, ham salad, hearty vegetable soup, Aunt Marlene's chocolate cake recipe, and fried okra.
Patty will be exceedingly and forever missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Susan Haskell, from El Dorado, and Terri (Bob) Slabodnik, of Reeds Spring, Missouri; her grandchildren, Laci (David) McIntyre, of Rootstown, Ohio, Laurie (Roger) Nightengale, of Nixa, Missouri, Leslie (Alan) Dodson, of Augusta, Kansas, Julie (Jack) Doornbos, of Wichita, Kansas, Joseph Slobodnik, of Denver, Colorado, and honorary granddaughter, Angie Powell, of Russell, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Gaige, Brooklynn, and Jameson McIntyre, Claire Nightengale, Maggie Dodson, Jordy and Joel Doornbos; the Ya Ya's; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who considered her their own immediate family.
Patty was preceded in passing by her parents, her husband Harold, her daughter Sandra L. Haskell, and brothers, Jack and Don Grove. Memorial donations in her name may be directed towards the Flint Hills Services/ARC of Butler County, of which Patty was an extraordinary advocate.
A Celebration of Patty's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 17th, 2025, at the First Christian Church in El Dorado, KS.
Private burial will be at a later date.
