Ruben Gomez Obituary
He was born on March 13, 1931, in Cassoday, Kansas, the son of Teodoro and Marta (Hernandez) Gomez.
Ruben proudly served his country in the United States Army with honorable service during the Korean War. He continued his service with the Army Reserves for 13 years.
On June 7, 1952, he was united in marriage to Pearl Ruiz in Winfield, Kansas. Together they built a loving family and shared 62 years of marriage until her passing in 2014.
Ruben was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in El Dorado. He also attended school at St. John.
Ruben was a member of the Kansas Trades Laborers Local Union #1290 for 40 years. Retiring as a foreman with Hahner Foreman and Harness Construction Company. Serving as Foreman some of his projects included the current El Dorado Municipal Pool, Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, McClure Waggy Ford Dealership, Dumont Baseball Stadium and numerous Dillons stores in the Wichita area.
He is survived by his children: Michael (Barb) Gomez, Dan (Glenda) Gomez, Ruben (Mary) Gomez, Jr., and Linda (Mike) Rodriguez; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchildren.
Ruben was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl; his son, Marcello Gomez; and siblings, Emidio, Matilda, Raymond, Pete, Raul, Samuel, and Magdaleno.
Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday, September 30, at St. James Catholic Church in Augusta from 9:00–10:00 a.m. A Rosary vigil will follow at 10:00 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:30 a.m. Ruben will be laid to rest in the Leon Cemetery.
