A Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia J. Jenkins, age 93, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Patricia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, in Huntersville, North Carolina, under the care of her daughter Linda, son-in-law Derek, and the compassionate staff at Ranson Ridge Assisted Living & Memory Care and Via Health Partners Hospice, Huntersville.
Born in Huntington (Long Island), New York, Patricia relocated with her family to New Smyrna Beach in 1972 from Port Jefferson (Long Island), New York. A loving and dedicated homemaker, she raised her children with grace, laughter, and tireless devotion. Upon arriving in Florida, she embraced a new chapter with remarkable ease, managing the family's two-and-a-half-acre citrus grove and lovingly tending to horses, ponies, livestock, chickens, rabbits, cats, and dogs. She brought care, creativity, and an indomitable spirit to everything she did, possessing an innate gift for nurturing and entertaining. She could comfort any baby, prepare and present beautiful meals with a caterer's skill, remove any stain, wallpaper or paint any surface, and sew clothing and prom dresses with precision and artistry. Her talents extended beyond the home to her passions for refinishing antique furniture, finding bird's nests with her grandchildren, and cheering for the Miami Dolphins and Florida State University Seminoles-three of her grandchildren being proud FSU alumni.
In the late 1970s, she returned to the workforce, drawing on her early experience with Long Island Bell Telephone Company. She ultimately served as the computer librarian for Volusia County at the Edgewater Library, where she successfully guided the library's transition to an automated system. In 1993, her supervisors noted that she "thrived on tackling new technology," even purchasing a home computer to continue advancing her skills. Until her recent move to North Carolina, Paricia was a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, and was active in the Council of Catholic Women and the Bereavement Services Committee.
Patricia is survived by her son, G.W. Jenkins of Fort Worth, Texas; daughters Linda Poulson (Derek) of Huntersville, North Carolina, and Beverly Shoemaker (Philip, Jr.) of Tallahassee, Florida; and daughter-in-law Nancy Jenkins Hout (David) of New Smyrna Beach. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Leroy I. Jenkins, Jr., a son James L. Jenkins, daughter Sandra S. Cast, grandson Charles M. Cast III, her parents, and four siblings.
In remembrance of Patricia's life and legacy, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Council of Catholic Women in New Smyrna Beach, The Friends of the Edgewater Public Library, or your local hospice organization.
