Patricia Maher Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by West Haven Funeral Home - West Haven on Sep. 20, 2025.
Patricia "Patty" Tullock Maher of West Haven, CT, passed from this life on September 20, 2025, after a long, hard struggle with dementia and related complications. Patty was born on June 13, 1940, and grew up in West Hartford, CT, as the oldest child of Daniel Adie and Evelyn Moreau Tullock and beloved granddaughter of Elizabeth Rosinus Tullock. Her siblings are Judy Wilson of Newark, DE, Pamela Kelly of Lexington, KY, the late Chip Tullock of Somers, CT, Rick Tullock of Keene, NH, and Ian Tullock of Avon, CT.

Patty graduated from the nursing program at Hartford Hospital in 1961 and married her middle school sweetheart, Frank J. Maher of New Haven, CT, later that year. Patty and Frank raised four children in North Haven, CT – Kathleen A. Maher of Hagerstown, MD, Sally L. Maher of West Haven, CT, Stephen A. Maher of Bloomfield, CT, and Patrick M. Maher of Guilford, CT.

While serving as a founding member of the Warner Road Mom's Club in North Haven in the 1960's and 1970's, Patty also raised dairy goats, was a sports mom at North Haven High School, and a veterinary assistant at Pond Point Animal Hospital in Milford, CT. After her marriage ended in 1982, Patty moved to West Haven, CT, and held a series of increasingly responsible nursing positions at area nursing homes for around 23 years and met her beloved second husband, Gardner Hodgkin of West Haven, CT.

Patty loved spending time with family and friends, gardening, reading, and vacationing at Hawks Nest Beach in Old Lyme, CT. Patty was blessed with four grandchildren, Kate Maher of Los Angeles, CA, Rebecca Maher of Wallingford, CT, Shailagh Maher of Somerville, MA, and Jacqueline Rzasa of Ansonia, CT. Patty loved her dogs and cats and enjoyed penny slots and golf. She never said no to a good lobster roll, but she also loved her scallops. Patty inherited a keen sweet tooth from her Grandma Betty and even near the end found a way to enjoy donuts when nothing else appealed.

Her husband, children, siblings, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends miss her dearly. Patty is survived by her husband, Gardner Hodgkin, children Kathy, Sally, Steve and Patrick and their spouses, grandchildren Kate, Becca, and Shailaigh Maher and Jacquie Rzasa, siblings Judy, Pam, and Rick and their spouses, nieces Cindy Rogers, Erin Hamill, Megan Dasguptas, Lindsay Tullock, Chris Tullock, Rachel Schnibbe, Elizabeth Maher and Erica Celso and their spouses and children, nephews Jim Rogers, Tom Rogers, Dave Tullock, Michael Maher, and Matthew Maher and their spouses and children, sisters-in-law Patricia E. Maher and Mary Barbara Maher, and ex-husband Frank Maher and his spouse Penny. Patty's Arnone cousins are Nancy, Susie, and Billy. Patty is pre-deceased by her parents, grandparents Elizabeth and Daniel Tullock and Grace and Alfred Moreau, aunts Nana Hibson, Rena Higgins, and Rita Arnone, uncles Phillip and William Moreau, brother Chip Tullock, brothers-in-law Dennis Kelly, Thomas Maher, and Fred Maher, nephews James and Paul Maher, and best friend Gary Smith.

A private celebration of life will be planned for a future date. Although Patty loved her flowers, in lieu of flowers, consider a donation to research for a cure for Alzheimer's.

Pat was my "big sister" growing up on Warner Road. She was such a a good listener as she shared a cup of tea with orange juice, not lemon in it. She offered much needed advise in my teenage years.
My sympathy goes out to all of you.

Aunt Pat was such a fun, loving person! She laughed easily and was loved by so many! She will be missed!
