Patricia A. (Lordan) McAvoy, age 95, a resident of Hudson, NH, passed away peacefully at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry, NH on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter J. McAvoy, Sr.
She was born in Somerville on January 1, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Henry F. and Margaret V. (Kiley) Lordan.
Pat was raised alongside her four siblings in Charlestown, MA and attended Charlestown Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1947. After graduation she worked for New England Telephone as an operator and soon met her beloved husband Walter McAvoy, who she affectionately referred to as Mac. Pat and Mac married in 1951 and soon after started their family. They were married for 54 years until Macs passing in 2005.
Pats biggest joy was her life with Mac and raising her seven children. Her greatest interests included all things music and attending the theater for both movies and live productions. Pat was also an avid reader, oftentimes reading more than one book at a time and famously known for reading the TV Guide from cover to cover! Annually, she looked forward to her girl weekend with her daughters and granddaughters up north which was a tradition for 30 years. Pat also thoroughly enjoyed her time spent with her friends while exercising at bone builders through the Dracut Senior Center up until she was 92 years young! Her motto was always I'm going to wear out, not rust out!
Patricia is survived by her two daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and the late Robert Nielsen Sr. of Hudson NH, Regina and Richard Demers of Dracut MA, two sons and two daughters-in-law, Brian and Denise McAvoy of Dracut and Walter Jr. and Alice McAvoy of Lowell, eleven grandchildren and their spouses and eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a brother and sister-in-law Timothy and Jeanne Lordan and sister-in-law, Betty Lordan and many nieces and nephews. Pat was also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret Bowen and John (Mike) Bowen, her brother Henry Lordan and brother and sister-in-law William and Maureen Lordan.
The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thanks to her extremely committed and loving daughter and caregiver, Linda Nielsen (and late son-in-law Robert) for always taking the greatest care of Pat for many years.
Her Funeral Service and Interment were held privately.
Memorial donations may be made in Patricias memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Wounded Warriors Project, two charities she was very fond of. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Patricia, please visit our Tree Store.
