Patricia Isabella McDaniel went to heaven to be with the Lord Sunday, January 21st surrounded by loved ones.
Patricia had 8 children in her first marriage and gained 5 more in her second. She wore many hats to those who loved her, and her family will remember her fondly as Honey, Mom, Mama, Sister, Patty, Aunt Pat, Grandma, Grandma Patty, Great Grandma and Gram Gram.
Patty loved her family (all 13 kids, 31 grandkids, 62 great grandkids and 4 great-great grandkids) and enjoyed family get togethers at Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve held in her home until the family grew too big to fit and had to be moved to a larger location. Memories of caroling, white elephant exchanges, pinatas or full holiday meals are, and will continue to be shared frequently as we look back fondly on the matriarch of the family.
All of her kids and many of her grandkids remember summer days at the pool for swim meets or the Columbia River where Patty taught swim lessons to kids for numerous years. She encouraged them all to swim as she was told it was the best exercise for Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT). CMT is a hereditary disease of the peripheral nerves that control muscles which Patty inherited from her father and knew it may have been passed on to her kids and their children. Patty wouldn't have told you she "suffered" from CMT until the last few years of her life. She made it her mission to thrive with it. She wore leg braces since she was 30 and would openly explain to those with questions. Patty was determined to not allow the disease to beat her and did her best to find solutions as CMT slowly took away her abilities.
Patty was best with children and enjoyed time with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren more than anything. She had patience for their stories, imaginary play, listening to them on the piano (that only 2-3 actually KNEW how to play), helping them cook and pretty much anything else they wanted her to watch them do. When they stayed overnight, they were serenaded with bedtimes songs like Ponyman, Little White Cloud, Buckaroo and Jesus Loves me. Ask any of them, and they would tell you she could change rocks into candy, making her truly magical.
Patty was greeted at the gates of heaven by her father Patrick, her mother Myrtle, many brothers and sisters, her first husband John and her beloved grandson David. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years Don Beard, her children Tony (Steph), Pat (Shirley), Michaela (Paul), Dena (Paul), John (Christa), Bernie (Becky), Kissie (Eric), Fawn (Bob); Don's children Russ (Susan), Roxie (Paul), Robbie, Renee (Arnold), Randy; too many grandchildren/great grandchildren/great-great grandchildren to list; brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
A service will be held Sunday, January 28th at 10am in Kayser's Chapel with a family reception to follow.
