Patricia "Pat" E. McFerrin, age 83, a long-time resident of Texarkana, AR, died Saturday, August 2, 2025, under hospice care.
Pat was born June 1, 1942, in Lockesburg, AR. She was a schoolteacher for 2 years before becoming a supportive housewife and helping to care for relatives.
She was a devoted member of Franklin Drive Church of Christ. She graduated from Lockesburg High School in 1960. She earned a Bachelor's degree from Henderson State and a Master's degree from the University of Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hudson and Hazel Wardlaw, husband of 49 years, W.H. McFerrin, and brother Acker Wardlaw.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and James Dowell, one granddaughter, Madalyn Dowell, sister, Rose Nash, and a number of other relatives.
Pat loved sewing and mending clothing, cooking for her family with vegetables she grew, reading and learning new vocabulary words, and visiting with a multitude of friends on the phone.
The family would like to give a special thanks for the exemplary care provided by Dr. Dean Bowman, Texarkana Emergency Center, Hospice of Texarkana, and Little River Nursing and Rehab.
The family will be having a private service to honor her life at a later time.
