Patricia Ann Mitchell, 73, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on March 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Patricia was born on November 18, 1952, to Doris Shaffer. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Doris Shaffer, and her grandparents, Jesse and Ray Shaffer.
She is survived by her loving son, Scott Mitchell (Tonya) of
Morgantown, West Virginia; her daughter, Kristen Clawges (David Jr.) of South Carolina; her former husband and lifelong friend, David A. Mitchell; and her three cherished grandsons, Bailey, David, and Parker, who were truly the light of her life.
Patricia dedicated 40 years of her life to teaching as a special education teacher. She had a remarkable heart for children and poured her life into helping her students feel seen, valued, and capable. Her patience, kindness, and compassion left a lasting impact on the countless students and families whose lives she touched throughout her career.
She was a faithful and active member of Living by Faith Church, where her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life and cared for others. Her faith was her foundation, guiding her through every season and inspiring those around her.
Above all, Patricia loved her family deeply. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandsons, cheering them on, loving them endlessly, and creating memories they will carry with them forever. She also had a special place in her heart for her beloved dogs, who brought her comfort and companionship throughout the years.
The family would like to extend their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to her sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Sharon Stump. Sharon and Patricia shared a special bond that began when Patricia was just 19 years old-a friendship that became family and remained strong for more than five decades. In Patricia's final chapter, Sharon lovingly moved in and selflessly cared for her, standing faithfully by her side and surrounding her with comfort, compassion, and unwavering love until the very end. Our family will forever be grateful for the extraordinary care and devotion she showed.
The family would also like to sincerely thank the compassionate caregivers and organizations who supported Patricia and our family during this time, including Visiting Angels, Senior Monongalians, and West Virginia Caring, whose kindness, and dedication brought comfort and dignity during her final days.
Patricia will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering faith, and the unconditional love she gave so freely to her family, her students, and everyone fortunate enough to know her. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord she loved so dearly.
Her love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all whose lives she touched.
