Patricia Patterson

Patricia Patterson, a devoted, compassionate, and radiant soul whose life was defined by caring for others, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on June 7, 1954, in Newark, New Jersey, she embodied kindness from an early age and carried that spirit throughout her life.
Patricia was educated through the Newark Public School System and later continued her studies at Essex County Community College. She grew up with a deep sense of community and faith. As a devoted member of Second Friendship Baptist Church, she participated in numerous church activities, forming bonds that lasted a lifetime.
Patricia's commitment to service was evident in her long and meaningful career. She spent many years at Job Haines Home, where her gentle presence and unwavering dedication touched countless lives. Later, she continued her mission of helping others for more than 20 years at Canterbury Court, where she was cherished by residents and coworkers for her warmth, generosity, and sincere compassion.
Beyond her work and faith, Patricia was the heart and center of her family. She lovingly raised four of her grandsons-Deshawn, Rodney Jr., Christian, and Diavante-as her own, teaching them the values of love, strength, patience, and resilience. Her home was always filled with laughter, the comfort of her home-cooked meals, and the glow of her warm aura. She also shared a special bond with her great-grandchildren, Eva, Elijah, and Piper, who held half of her heart.
Patricia will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her infectious laugh, and the humor that could brighten any room. Her playful facial expressions, her unforgettable walk-you could always hear her coming-and the wise advice she freely gave will live on in the memories of everyone who loved her. She had a gift for making others feel seen, heard, and cared for.
Patricia leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Dorothy Patterson; her better half, James Smith; her sons, Rodney Patterson, Yusuf Bukhari, Maurice Patterson, and Tyrone Patterson; her granddaughter, Dona' Patterson; twenty grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Janice Patterson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who adored her.
Patricia was preceded in death by her father, Moses Patterson; her son, Keith Moses Russell Patterson; and her sister, Kathy Patterson.
Patricia's legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering devotion. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
