Patricia N. Steele passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025 at her home in Fairmont, West Virginia, surrounded by loved ones.
Patricia was born in Fairmont, on May 21, 1943, daughter of the late William and Nola Bauer. She spent her early years in Jordan, West Virginia before moving to Bellview as a teenager, where she began attending Highland Avenue United Methodist Church, of which she remained an active member throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed hosting church meetings at her home, always in the formal living room, with the fancy blue furniture, where the kids were not allowed.
On a June evening in 1960, after choir practice, Patricia was picked up by her blind date for the evening, David Steele. A week later, they were "going steady." David proposed that Christmas, but the engagement was postponed until Patricia turned 18 the following May.
After Patricia graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1961, she and David were finally married on October 21st, 1962. They purchased their first home on Wabash Street, before moving their growing family to Whitehall in the early 70s.
Later in life, Patricia attended Fairmont State University, graduating in 1995 with a degree in Sociology. This led to the joy of her life: working at Head Start, where she helped local children to grow and prosper.
In 1998, Patricia and David broke ground on their dream home in Colfax, where every birthday and holiday was celebrated with an extensive feast.
Following her husband's death in 2005, she joined Life United Methodist Church Grief Share, where she later served as a Facilitator until her illness prevented her from participating.
Patricia was an avid, lifelong fan of Elvis Presley. She enjoyed camping at Big Bear Lake with her family, frequent beach vacations, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, exchanging cards and letters with her loved ones, and meeting regularly for lunch with her many friends.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents William and Nola Bauer; brother Kenneth Bauer; brother William Bauer, along with his wife Barbara Bauer; son-in-law Darrell Marbury; and her beloved husband David Steele.
She is survived by her son Brian Steele; daughter Robyn Steele and her children Michaela, Joren, and Aiden Cloutier; daughter Ronda Steele and her daughter Kirsten Steele; son Shawn Steele and his daughter Gevony Foreman, her husband Jason Foreman, and their children Elijah and Meyrick; and son Jared Steele and his wife Jessica Vanderhoff. She considered raising her five children to be her greatest accomplishment.
Visitation will be held on May 3rd at 11:00 AM, at Highland Avenue United Methodist Church in Fairmont, with services following that day at 1:00 PM.
A private committal will be held for family at Rest Haven Memorial with Pastor Jennifer Sayers presiding. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to Highland Avenue United Methodist Church.
