Patricia Ann Wernig ObituaryPATRICIA ANN WERNIG, 89 of Catonsville, MD, formerly of Street, MD, died on Thursday, March 13, 2025 in the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore, MD. Married on September 10, 1955 to William Charles Wernig, Jr., they had shared 69 years of marriage.
Born on October 25, 1935 in Baltimore, MD, she was one of three daughters born to the late Leo Joseph Hogan and Amelia (Pietsch) Hogan and graduated from Eastern High School in Baltimore, MD in 1953. A true homemaker, mom and wife at heart. She had been a member of the Highland Homemakers. Pat and her husband worked side by side on the family farm after moving from Baltimore in 1964 to Holy Cross Road. She shared a love of the farm life raising crops and animals with Bill and orchestrated the family farm grain and freezer beef business. As her children grew older and beef production increased she decided to work in the cafeteria at North Harford High School and Klein's deli to learn the food services and the retail sales business. Pat and Bill then opened "Wernig Country Meats" in 1985, a retail meat market store in Belvedere Square and then later at Drum Castle Center. The business quickly became known for its quality and value and won Baltimore Magazines, "Baltimore's Best Meats" in 1987 and 1995. As she aged, the business was later sold and Pat and Bill continued to raise beef and grain on the farm. Pat loved to cook, host family dinners and celebrations and was known to brag about the grandchildren.
Pat was a member of St. Mary, Pylesville Roman Catholic Parish since they moved to Street, MD in the summer of 1964. She and Bill hosted the pre-cana classes for couples who were to be married, worked at the chicken dinners/jousting tournaments, cooked for the monthly bingo lunches and attended mass regularly. Pat held her faith close to her heart with strong Christian beliefs. Her beautiful smile and uplifting personality greeted many at church as well as many other occasions in her life and this will be missed.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by:
Four children-
Bob Wernig and his wife, Melanie and their children: Charlie Wernig and Annie France
Michael Wernig and his wife, Laura and their children: Joseph, Daniel, Kristen and Jessica Wernig
