On Monday, May 20, 2024, Richard S. Wernig, age 59, of Dalton, N.H. passed away peacefully at home after losing his battle with cancer. Rick was born on January 29, 1965, in Queens, NY. His parents were the late Charles and Marion Wernig. Rick grew up in Whitefield, N.H. and attended White Mountains Regional High School. As a teenager, Rick started work in the woods business. Notable employers that he enjoyed working for include: Luther Crowe, Craig Clukay, and Scott Dillon. His most recent employer was the T.R. Dillon Log Yard in Woodsville, N.H. This was a job he was devoted to for nearly 15 years.
Rick particularly enjoyed being a crane operator. When he wasn't working, Rick also loved spending time with his friends and family. Rick liked attending gun shows, collecting "good deals," hunting, fishing, and having a "few" beers while telling stories with friends. He especially loved spoiling his grandchildren with many motorized toys and watching them ride.
Rick is survived by his partner of 18 years, Roxanne McLain of Gilman, V.T, Jeremiah and Becky Lawson of Lunenburg, V.T., and his grandchildren: Griffin, Dexter, Paisley, and Hadley Lawson of Lunenburg, V.T.
Rick's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of his friends that stood by him throughout the years, especially those who were there for him during his final days. He considered his friends as his extended family.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 2 p.m. at the Cushman Cemetery in Dalton, N.H. All are welcome at the service.
