Patrick Baucom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lee-Ellena Funeral Home on Dec. 2, 2025.
Patrick Baucom, age 78, was born on June 10, 1947, in Springfield, Illinois and passed away November 29, 2025. His family later moved to Lapeer, Michigan, where he grew up. Pat earned an associate's degree from Tulsa Junior College after graduating from Lapeer High School.

Pat proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force for 36 years, a period of his life for which he held great pride. During his time in the Air Force, Patrick served as a flight engineer on the C-130 aircraft and was deployed in Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom. Following his military service, he built a career as a logistics specialist at TACOM in Warren, Michigan. He eventually retired in 2006.

On March 20, 1971, Patrick married his wife, Billie Castleberry, in Ada, Oklahoma. Soon after their wedding, they moved to Michigan and they were married for 54 years. She was a loving and faithful wife to him throughout their marriage.

Pat was a father to his two daughters, Jennifer Peck (Ken) and Leslie Garner (Geoff). He was also a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Ethan, Evan, Aaron, and Emerson Peck, and Grant and Leighton Garner.

Pat is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Fred Baucom as well as his brother, James, who died in the line of duty in Vietnam.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Patrick enjoyed a variety of hobbies that reflected his appreciation for nature and the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent a lot of time in both hobbies over the years. He also enjoyed gardening, watching old western movies and taking his motorcycle out for rides.

Pat's memorial service will be held at Lee-Ellena Funeral Home on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and will resume after the service has ended until noon.

My deepest condolences. I flew with Boomer many times. Enjoyed flying with him and after flight activities.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Pat´s passing, and I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Pat and I served together after being recalled to active duty for Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. During our six-month deployment, I remember his quiet moments with books, his steady professionalism as a flight engineer, and a rare but joyful day when we attended a camel race between flights. Pat´s knowledge and dedication made every mission safer, and his presence brought comfort and camaraderie whether we were working or at leisure. His memory will live on in the lives he touched. Rest in peace, Pat.

May he RIP. I have been on many missions with Pat. Not only was a great engineer but a great friend. Whenever we would get together, he would always tell a story that he fell out of a troop door while trying to assist me in closing it. He said he was dangling out side of the airplane and I pulled him back in. I don't remember that happening, but he insisted it did.
I know that I have missed flying with him but I know that anyone who knew him feels the same way.

My sincere condolences to all the Baucom family. Pat and I served together in the 63rd Tactical Airlift Squadron at Selfridge ANGB. He was my C-130 flight engineer during the first Gulf War and was a true professional. For 6 months we were deployed to the UAE and our crew of five shared a `hooch´ together. It was Pat who was the adult in the room!! But to our chagrin and amusement Pat had befriended a sand mouse he caught and turned it into a hooch pet. He string together a hundred+ empty liter water bottles and built a tube track around the top of the walls so the little fella could get his exercise. And let it loose the day we left for home!
Throughout our 6 months as a crew Pat´s dry wry wit and truth telling sense of humor kept our eye on the ball and flying safe. He always had a smile and good temperament. What a pleasure he was to fly with. Pat´s life was so much more than just putting on a flight suit but that is how his military brothers from 63rd will remember him. God has welcomed him with open arms....and probably handed him a Dash 1

Of all the good memories, it is Pat's outstanding sense of humor that will remain alive in our hearts. May his grandchildren always remember that the more laughter he invoked, the deeper his love for you all. We shall surely miss our last most Irish cousin - Chuck & Margaret Lennon
