Olin Baucom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burroughs Funeral Home - Bennettsville on Dec. 29, 2025.
Olin Michael "Mike" Baucom, 78, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Scotland Memorial Hospital, after an illness.

Mike was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on December 17, 1947, to Olin R, and Alice Eastwood Baucom. Raised in Dillon, he graduated from Dillon High School and Francis Marion College.

After school, Mike discovered his love for Golfing and followed in his father's footsteps by being a Golf Pro at several courses around the Pee Dee. He was well known for his ability to play golf and won several tournaments and accolades because of it.

In the early part of his career, He was employed by Hamilton's and Herald Office Supply. He then began a career with the South Carolina State Transport Police and retired as a Lance Corporal in 2012. Retirement suited "Poppie" (as he was lovingly referred to as) quite well. It gave him plenty of time to pursue his other interests such as hunting, fishing, and spending quality time with his family.

He is survived by; His wife, Sherry Baucom; A daughter, Michelle Baucom; His "bonus" children, Robbie Smith (Lori), and Leslie Powell (Josh); A sister, Dawn Arnette (Wilmer); Grandchildren, Dylan Cummings (Alysa), Kaylee Smith, and Ford Smith; Great-grandchildren, Waylon Cummings, Hadley Cummings, and Ellie Grace Cummings; Several beloved nieces and nephews; and Special Family Friends, Cheyenne English (Cameron and Lakyn).

In addition to his parents listed above, Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Faye Price.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Burroughs Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Griggs officiating. Visitation with family will be from 2-3pm immediately prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to: The Community Kitchen of Bennettsville, PO Box 31, Bennettsville, South Carolina, 29512
