Deborah Carmichael Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hills Chapel - Fairmont on Sep. 14, 2025.
Ms. Deborah Ann Carmichael, of Rowland, North Carolina transitioned on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina. Deborah "Brenda" was born on October 5, 1953, in Hamer, South Carolina to James Carmichael and Vera McDougal Carmichael.

Deborah received her education in Dillon County and graduated from Dillon High School with the class of 1971. After graduation Deborah sought a different territory from her beginning in the south and found that exciting place in Washington, DC. While living there, she furthered her education by enrolling at the University of the District of Columbia from which she earned a Bachelor of Administration in 1985. She expressed her desire to teach and enrich younger minds; so she furthered her studies in education upon locating to New York where she received a Masters in Education. Her final teaching assignment was with the Robeson County Public School system from which she retired.

Deborah developed a love and passion for travel. She had the pleasure of teaching in the United States, Guam, the Philippines just to name a few. She expressed the joy of being able to work with children that required extra attention and assistance in order to achieve. Deborah was known to encourage and enrich the lives of those she encountered. Deborah had her unique sayings "live and help others" , "do not allow anything to discourage you from achieving what you desire. Her laughter, jokes and big heart will truly be missed. She lit up a room each time she entered. Her memory will live on in the lives of those whom she had an impact.

Brenda was a devout member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses where she served with diligence and pride and displayed an unshakable faith. She would invite everyone she met to bible study; she wanted each one to know , "Yes, You are loved". She allowed the love that was within herself to radiate outward and she did not allow the grass to grow between her toes.

Deborah is survived by a sister; Minnie (Henry) Mewborn of Hope Mills, North Carolina, two nieces, Marquita and Cynthia ( Demetrius); five great nephews, Prince, Dontae, Isaac, Demetrius, and DarVel. Special cousins, Doris, Debbie, Darryl and Annette. A very special family friend Mary Leach and a host of other family members and friends, all of whom will cherish the memories and always remember "Brenda".

I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She had recently taken classes and was becoming a Master Gardener with the Robeson County Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners. She was a joy to be around, always had a positive attitude. She will be missed!
