He was born in Grand Forks, ND on November 1, 1935, to Gordon and Lillian Marie (Bushee) Bridgeford. He was the youngest of eight children and farmed with his father in rural East Grand Forks until he volunteered to serve his country in the Army from 1953 to 1956.
Patrick began to pursue Eleanore Mary Mack in 1954. Many letters were written between them during the years when Patrick was in the service and Eleanor was in nursing school. They were married in December 1957. Together they had four children: Lori Marie, Theresa Ann, John Patrick, and Shannan James.
Patrick grew up on the family farm and loved to talk about John Deere tractors with his dad. He learned carpentry from his brother Robert, started his own business, and was proud to be a farmer and home builder. He enjoyed going out for early morning fellowship and breakfast in town, playing dominos, watching sports, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
