Patrick R. Capranica, 90, of Lee's Summit, Missouri passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025. He was born in South Union Township, Pennsylvania on May 4, 1935, to the late Patsy Ralph Capranica and Sara Miller Capranica. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Capranica and a brother-in-law, William Williams.
He proudly served in the United States Navy, where he served on an aircraft carrier, the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He got married and had three sons with his first wife, Jacqueline Capranica. He went to college at Pittsburg State University, graduated with a bachelor's degree and later went on to earn a Masters. He was a History Professor and taught at various Kansas City area Community Colleges, most notably Longview Community College where he also served as the Department Chair for many years.
Our dad, in his lifetime enjoyed spending time with family and friends, dancing, blues music, teaching, traveling, reading, games (he was an excellent poker player, greyhound racing, NFL football, and cars.
He is survived by his loving girlfriend, Joyce Hegarty and her wonderful family, his three sons, Michael Capranica (Glenna, Patrick W. Capranica (Marilyn), Thomas Capranica (Candis), his sister Sandra Williams, his nephew, William Williams (Irene). He is also survived by his three stepdaughters, Stephanie Walton, Kimberly Houser (Mark), Theresa Barlow, and 14 grandchildren, Shawna Green (Jason), Laura VanEss (Mark), Dan Capranica (Kristen), Tom Capranica (Stacy), Tara Thorton (Brady), Brandon Capranica, Justin Farrare (Alexis), Michelle Daniels (Jerry), Jason Lilly (Kelsi), VJ Walton, Bailey Walton, Jessica Herndon (Ben), Alec Barlow, Reed Beavers. He is also survived by 23 great grandchildren, Bradlee, Autumn, Jacob, Andrew, Hannah, Allison, Aiden, Jameson, Madison, Hunter, Kristen, Kelby, Keaton, Lincoln, Charlie, Everly, Emmalynee, Jace, Jaiden, Shaylee, Jasper, Keatyn, and Aria. Also, four great-great grandchildren, Jade Aura, Maddy, and Isabella.
We loved our Dad and will miss him dearly, but we are thankful that he no longer has health issues that were progressing. He is at Peace.
