Patrick Kearney Obituary

Patrick Joseph Kearney
Patrick Joseph Kearney, 63, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on St. Valentine's Day, February 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Patrick was the beloved husband of 33 years to Genevieve (Genie) Przygocki Kearney; and loving father of Michael Patrick Kearney, Christian Matthew Kearney and Brandon Joseph Kearney, all of Hamden. Patrick was born on October 11, 1962, in New Haven, Connecticut, son of the late Gerard Kearney, Sr. and late Anna Kearney Longley. Brother of Gerard (Veronica) Kearney, Jr., James Kearney, John (Alex) Kearney and Margaret (Kearney) Barretta. Predeceased by his mother-in-law, Genevieve K. Przygocki; sister-in-law, Katherine Przygocki; and brother-in-law, Frank Barretta. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his brother-in-law, Bruce Przygocki of Hamden; and many nieces and nephews. Patrick graduated from St. Francis School in New Haven and North Haven High School. He received his Associate's Degree in Drug and Alcohol Counseling from South Central (Gateway) Community College and went on to receive his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Psychology and Counseling from Southern Connecticut State University. Patrick worked as a licensed drug and alcohol counselor at Gaylord Hospital, Griffin Hospital and North Haven Community Services. He then went on to become a clinical care manager for Advanced Behavioral Health and Beacon Health Options. Most recently, he completed 15 years of dedicated service as a case manager with Elevance Health. Patrick was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Paul VI Parish, where he completed the Alpha Program. He graduated from the Archdiocese of Hartford Catholic Biblical School two-year program in Basic Biblical Studies and four-year program in Advanced Biblical Studies. Patrick liked to read the Bible, psalms and countless religious books to enrich his faith. He prayed the rosary daily. He was an avid chess player and marathon runner. His hobbies included building puzzles, researching his genealogy back to Ireland, and coin collecting. Pat was a great fan of Elvis Presley, AC/DC, Queen, The Who, Journey, Billy Idol and Rush. Above all, Patrick was a devoted, loving family man and was actively involved with his sons' activities as they grew up, especially Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts, baseball and Taekwondo. He enjoyed vacationing in Cape Cod and visiting State and National Parks with his family. He especially loved watching the sunrises and sunsets on top of Cadillac Mountain at Acadia National Park in Maine and walking the carriage roads. His compassion, friendship and sense of humor will be missed by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 10:00am at St. Rita Church, 1620 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. Friends may call Friday, from 4-7pm at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, 3102 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. Memorial donations may be made in Patrick's name to the American Cancer Society.

Yesterday

To the Kearney Family,

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Patrick and I worked together at Beacon Health Options-Carelon Behavioral Health for several years, and he was truly one of the kindest people you could ever meet. Every time I ran into him, he was either heading out for a run on his lunch break or just coming back from one-always staying active, always smiling, and always taking a moment to be kind to everyone around him. He had such a gentle spirit and a warmth that made the workplace better. May you find comfort in the love surrounding you and in the many wonderful memories of Patrick.

With deepest sympathy,

Kyra
