Patrick J. Mooney, 89, passed away on January 15, 2025. He died tragically and suddenly from injuries he succumbed to from an accident. We find comfort knowing he is in the presence of his Savior and joyously reunited with his beloved wife Shelby.
Patrick was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky on April 8, 1935, to Frank Joseph and Mary Belle Mooney. He met his sweetheart, Shelby, at the fair in Jackson, Tennessee, on September 18, 1953. They raised 8 children on Air Force Bases across the country including Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Guam, South Dakota, Ohio, Louisiana, and Florida. Patrick retired as Master Sargent from the United States Air Force. He then worked as a machine shop finished product inspector at Tri-State Oil Tool. Shortly after his second retirement, Patrick and Shelby returned to where they both grew up in Tennessee. They spent a decade and a half in a one red light town of Enville, TN., where Patrick participated in battle reenactments, served as alderman, and was elected as Mayor. They spent time in a dream home built by the two of them (as well as the nice citizens of that area) until the grandchildren and great-grandchildren called them back home to Bossier City.
Patrick loved his family, served his country, and faithfully worshipped Jesus. Patrick and Shelby shared their Catholic faith as parishioners of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Selmer, TN. They also attended St. Mary's in Savannah, TN. Once back in Bossier City their friends called them roaming Catholics while they attended eight services a week throughout the Shreveport Diocese. After Shelby's passing, Patrick became an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church where he was a choir member and volunteer for various Parish activities.
Patrick was always singing or whistling and loved baking homemade chocolate pies to share at any and every occasion. His wit and humor were contagious. His intelligence was unmatched, especially with his lofty vocabulary that we often had to google the meaning of words he used in conversation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Belle Mooney, his wife of 68 years Shelby Jean Mooney, siblings, Rita Caldwell, Helen King, Frankie Mooney, Regina Mooney, Mike Mooney, daughter Keyna Mooney, son-in-law Robert Haley, granddaughter, Michelle Roe, great grandsons, Colton Bordelon and Reed Sistrunk, great granddaughter, Caitlin Fletcher.
