Patrick "Pat" James Murphy, 65, of Erie, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 21st, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty that touched every life he encountered.
Pat was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, on February 7, 1960, to the late Norman Sr. and Jewell (Cochran) Murphy. Raised in Girard, he proudly graduated from Girard High School's Class of 1978, where he met his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Robin Chesko. The two wed on August 21, 1982, and built a lifetime of memories together - a partnership defined by devotion, humor, and unwavering care. Their marriage was a model of steadfast love through every joy and hardship.
Pat took tremendous pride in his long career at Erie Insurance, where he was known for his integrity, leadership, and kindness. He met people at their level, bringing out the best in others - mentoring colleagues, building genuine relationships, and always finding ways to bring laughter and connection to the workplace. Pat worked hard, laughed often, and cared deeply about the people around him. His humor, generosity, and steady presence earned the respect of countless colleagues. He retired in 2022 as Director of Program Management.
Upon retirement, Pat devoted himself to caring full-time for his beloved Robin as she faced Alzheimer's disease, remaining at her side with patience and compassion until her passing in December 2022. His love for her never wavered; it was a quiet and enduring force that those who knew them will never forget.
Pat's greatest joy was his family. He was a proud father to Michelle, sharing softball games, basketball practices, dirt bike trails, and rollercoaster rides - always a willing companion in fun and adventure. He guided Michelle through life - from homework to job interviews - always serving as a steady and loving north star, modeling the values of love, loyalty, and honesty. "Pa" was an adoring grandfather to Nora James and Logan Robin, who brought endless laughter and light into his days. His face would light up instantly at the mention of them, and he spent countless happy hours with them perched on his lap during tractor excursions.
Known for his quick wit and mischievous humor, Pat could always be counted on for a perfectly timed joke or a teasing grin. He had a passion for fast motorcycles, loud cars, and all things Irish - Blarney included. He was generous with his time, talent, and heart, always quick to lend a hand and make those around him feel supported.
Pat's passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who loved him, but his memory will endure - in every shared laugh, every kind gesture, and every story told over a cold soda in his honor. He will be greatly missed by his family, which includes only child, Michelle (Abby) Murphy of Madison, WI; cherished grandchildren, Nora and Logan Murphy; brother Norman Murphy Jr. and his wife, Sarah Murphy; sister-in-law Becky Deutsch; brother-in-law Allen Orr; lifelong friends Chuck and Anne Mathews; dear friend Roseanne Gresh; extended family and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved Robin, sister Chris (Murphy) Orr, and his parents.
Memorials may be made to The Sister Mary Pascal Gray, SSJ Food Pantry with St. Patrick Parish, 130 East 4th St. Erie, PA 16507 or The Alzheimer's Association PA Chapter 2835 E. Carson St. Suite 200 Pittsburgh, PA 15203.
Friends and loved ones may call on Monday, October 27th, from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM at Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. A Catholic funeral mass will be held the following day, Tuesday, October 28th, at 11:15am at St. Patrick's, 130 E 4th St, Erie, PA 16507.
