Patrick David Smith, March 2nd, 2001 to December 16th, 2024
Patrick lived life to its fullest with a multitude of accomplishments surpassing anyone's expectations. He was a sensitive and caring soul which he expressed through his love of playing music. As a young child he once asked us to not let the cows in the house that night as he believed his cowlick actually came from cows licking his head at night while he slept.
Patrick David Smith, 23, of Star Tannery, VA died in Winchester, VA the morning of December 16th, 2024.
He was born in Eschenbach, Germany in 2001 to David William Smith, Jr. and Margaret Allison Hopkins Smith who loved him dearly. Some children have a stuffy or blanket, but Patrick's preferred comfort item was a matchbox car or three that we had to pry out of his hands after he fell asleep.
He was very determined and worked hard to perfect anything he was involved in, case in point he earned his blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do before entering middle school at Reagan Middle School in Haymarket, VA. It was in middle school that he picked up his first Alto Sax and never quit playing. His repertoire expanded to many other instruments from there, but the Alto Sax was always his main instrument.
He attended High School at Kettle Run in Nokesville, VA followed by a year working construction where he assisted in building a small single-family home from a wooded lot to completion. He was then accepted to the school of music at WVU where he relished in the opportunity to delve deep into his passion. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in May of 2024 from WVU and began teaching children in the greater Richmond, VA area.
Patrick was a bright light in anyone's life he touched and while we are ever so grateful for the 23 years he spent here on earth with us, he will be enormously missed by many.
Patrick is survived by his parents Dave and Maggie Smith and his four siblings, Chelsey Anderson, 35, Douglas Smith, 25, Ginsie Smith, 18, and Oakley Smith, 7.
The funeral service will be held on January 18th, 2024, 2pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 140 W Boscawen St., Winchester, VA 22601. Friends and family are invited to bring their favorite photograph (4x6 or smaller) of Patrick to be added to an album for the family at the reception following the service.

I was lucky to be an acquaintance of Patrick while I was a member of the Kettle Run High School Band. He was easily one of the most talented people I´ve ever met. He held us all to a higher standard, yet he was also so incredibly kind and humble.

Patrick truly inspired me not only to become better at the saxophone, but to become a more dedicated musician and person. He was always pushing me to do my absolute best and always took me under his wing. Truly the kindest soul who always was striving for growth not only for himself, but for those around him.

I met Patrick when I entered high school band. We both played saxophone, and we were both in jazz band. He was a mentor figure for me; helping to guide me through my first year of high school, and more so, he was a good friend, always helping me when I was in need. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

I will always remember sharing the stage with Patrick in both Choir and Band in high school. He was such a kind and sweet person, and absolutely amazing at his craft. He will be deeply missed
