Buford Boyd "Bud" Vogel, 93, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, at The Terraces at Bonita Springs, FL. Born November 11, 1931, in Wheeling, WV, Bud was the son of the late George and Opal (née Funk) Vogel. He grew up in Grafton, WV, and attended West Virginia University. A proud veteran, he served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return home to Grafton in 1953, he met and married in 1955 the love of his life, Jo Ann. Together they shared 70 years of marriage filled with love, family, and cherished memories. In 1958, Bud and Jo Ann, along with their young son, moved to Virginia, where, now as a civilian, Bud started working as a contracting officer for the U.S. Army in Washington DC, and continued to do so till he retired in 1987. The Vogels loved returning to Grafton for family and class reunions, keeping lifelong connections. They also enjoyed 40 years of family time and fun at their beach front condo in Ocean City, MD, where Bud loved watching the ocean and the Boardwalk from their balcony, and taking long walks on the beach. In 1994, Bud and Jo Ann, now both retired, made Bonita Bay in Bonita Springs their home. Here, at the age 65, Bud discovered a passion for athletics, competing in 5K and 10K races, half marathons and even triathlons, in FL and other states. He was an avid swimmer, runner, tennis player, cyclist, but above all Bud was known for his warm spirit and being a good neighbor and friend. In 2013 Bud and Jo Ann moved to the Terraces, where Bud found joy in meeting new friends, reconnecting with old ones. Bud is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann (née Childers) Vogel of Bonita Springs, FL; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Svetlana Vogel of North Fort Myers, FL; as well as extended family and friends who will remember him with deep affection. He was preceded in death by his brothers William, John, and Robert Vogel, and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Bradley.
