Waterbury - Patrick Anthony Walsh, "Pat", age 87, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of the late Mary (O'Connor) Walsh for 57 years.
Patrick was born on November 16, 1938, in Gortulahane, Lixnaw, Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland. He was the oldest son of the late James and Bridget (Dillon) Walsh. Patrick attended school in Ireland and grew up on his family's farm with his parents, four brothers and two sisters in Upper Derk, Knocknagoshel, County Kerry. His beloved family in Ireland were always near and dear in his heart. At age 21, Patrick immigrated to the United States and came to live with his Auntie Mary (Dillon) Carmody in Waterbury. Patrick became a U.S. citizen and worked at the Waterbury Buckle Shop. He began his career working for Olin Brass at Somers Thin Strip, a metal processing company in Waterbury. Pat worked in the mill, became a foreman and then a supervisor. Later in his career, he became a superintendent and retired in 1994. Pat worked for over 30 years at Somers Thin Strip. Pat was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Irish American Social Club of Waterbury. He was a longtime parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and SS. Peter and Paul Church and often served as an usher and collector at Mass.
Pat was a genuine, caring, kind and loving husband, father, and grandpa. He enjoyed Irish music, Irish dances, playing cards, reading, especially history books and the newspapers, crossword puzzles, watching the Red Sox, and visiting and spending time with his family and friends. Pat enjoyed traveling with his wife, Mary, and took many trips back to Ireland and went to London to see his family, who meant so much to him. Both Pat and Mary enjoyed their time in Southington, and their many trips together to Plainville, MA, as well as traveling to Cape Cod, the Jersey Shore, and Delaware to visit the Kennealey family. Most of all, Pat enjoyed spending time with his five grandsons who adored him, and he always enjoyed watching them play baseball, football and basketball. Both Pat and Mary were blessed in their life together, as they were so loved by their families and friends.
Left to cherish his memory and honor his legacy are his daughter, Cathy Ohlson and her husband, Tom of Plainville, MA; his son, James Walsh and his wife, Karen of Southington, CT; and his five grandsons, Sean and Christopher Ohlson, and Ryan, Jack and Quinn Walsh. Patrick was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary (May, 2023). Patrick leaves behind his sister, Mary O'Brien and her husband, Mike; and his four brothers, Thomas Walsh and his wife, Peg, Francis Walsh and his wife, Sheila, Brendan Walsh and his wife, Kathleen, all from County Kerry, Ireland, Bertie Walsh and his wife, Geraldine from London, England; sister-in-law, Kathleen Kennealey and her husband, Gerard of Wilmington, DE; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
