Patrick David Wilhelmi was born on a farm in Bancroft, IA to Harold and Blanche (Lunn) Wilhelmi on March 17th, 1944 on St. Patrick's Day and thus earned the name "Patrick". He proudly displayed "St Pat" on his car license plate for many years.
Pat attended St John the Baptist Catholic School in Bancroft and worked as the school custodian for many years. He loved being around the school children and they loved him. He also worked for Garry's Funeral Home (now Oakcrest Funeral Services). Pat was a member of the St John's Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Pat loved telling people he was from Bancroft, Iowa and promoted the town everywhere he went. Pat had an outgoing personality and generously gave his time by volunteering with the Bancroft Volunteer Fire Department, visiting residents in the local nursing home, and calling bingo at church.
He never asked for anything in return. Pat exuded warmth and went out of his way to make sure everyone around him felt included. Pat was an avid St. Louis Cardinal's baseball fan and supported the Iowa Hawkeyes. Pat loved being part of a large family and enjoyed the family reunions. He enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle. Pat was always in contact with his brothers and sisters to let them know the hometown news and weather.
Pat passed away May 12, 2025 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, of a respiratory ailment at the age of 81 years.
He is survived by his siblings Rosemary Coler of Chicago, IL, Tom Wilhelmi (Paulette) of Minnesota Lake, MN, Larry Wilhelmi of Bancroft, Karen McNertney (Charlie) of Algona, Bill Wilhelmi of Westminster CO, Joan Baca (George) of Omaha NE, Joe (Ann) Wilhelmi of Omaha NE, Judy Ferris (Chris) of Carmel IN, Geri Tansey (Jim) of Frankfort IL, Barb D'Erasmo (Frank) of Scarsdale NY, Linda Dunham (Daniel) of Des Moines, IA, and Dan Wilhelmi (Gretchen) of Panora. Pat is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Blanche Wilhelmi; infant brother James; brother Bob; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Wilhelmi, Marlene Wilhelmi, Mary Wilhelmi; and brother-in-law, Val Coler and several nieces and nephews.
Pat loved all children and was "Uncle Pat" to all. To commemorate Pat's love for children his family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
