Patsy Allen Barnes, 90, of Tar Heel went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 16, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Preston Allen and Velma Clark Allen, her husband Norris Barnes, granddaughter Bethany Ward Widman and great grandchild William Jon Alden. Left to cherish her memory are sons, Seldon Allen Ward of Tar Heel, Richard K. Ward (Mary) of Durham, and Carl D. Ward Jr. (Karen) of Moorpark, California, daughter, Deanna Ward (Doug Queen) of Cullowhee, NC, Ella E. “Jean” Ward (the children’s stepmom) of Sylva, NC, sister Barbara Campbell of Iva, SC, two sisters-in-law Ellen W. Ashe (Winfred) of Cullowhee, and Barbara Ward of Lawndale, NC, grandchildren Carl D. Ward III, Michail Ward, Rachael Hilton (Phillip), Patricia Alden (Christopher M. Price), Jenine Ward, Bradley Ward, Taylor Ward, and John Ward. She also leaves behind 14 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Patsy was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was all about her family. She enjoyed celebrating her favorite holidays, Easter and Christmas, and cooking birthday meals for her children and grandchildren. Patsy was a strong, independent lady. She graduated from Tar Heel High School and attended Western Carolina University where she met and married her husband. She worked for CSX Railroad for 25 years and was a writer. Patsy loved to worship the Lord and read her bible daily. She was an eloquent Southern Lady with a sweet disposition and a determined mindset. Her legacy of strength, determination and love have been handed down to the ones she leaves to carry on her memory.
The family will receive family and friends from 10-11:00 am on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Beth Car Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Tar Heel. A funeral service will follow in the sanctuary at 11:00 am with Pastor Johnny Simpson of Beth Car and Reverend Tom Atkinson of the Bladen County Church of Christ officiating. Services will conclude in the Allen Family Cemetery off 87 South in Tar Heel.
