Patsy Hecker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home - Warrensburg on Mar. 20, 2026.
Patsy Ruth Hecker passed away on March 19, 2026.

Patsy was born on the family farm outside Stiles, IA on June 10, 1936, to Floyd and Leola (Hendricks) Miller. She graduated from Pulaski High School in 1953 and attended the Iowa Success Business College and State Fair Community College. She worked as a controller at Whiteman Air Force Base for 25 years.

Pat and George Hecker were married on March 4, 1956. Two years later, they headed to Springfield, MO where George attended Mission University (formerly Bible Baptist College). After his graduation, George and Pat's arduous journey began with ministries in Keokuk, IA, La Crosse, KS, Hays, KS and finally Warrensburg, MO.

Pat embraced her role as a minister's wife. She trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior on October 19, 1955. She played piano and organ, organized women's meetings and events and taught Sunday School classes for over 60 years. Pat was a born teacher and watched generations of children in her Sunday School classes transfer into adults and continue as church members. Pat was a devoted wife to a devoted minister.

Pat had 2 passions in her life. Little kids.........and dogs. Pat and Rex, her Border Collie, visited the Warrensburg Manor, Ridge Crest Nursing Center and the Country Club Rehab weekly for several years. Pat said Rex loved the attention and was always excited to be part of the experience. Pat's neighbors became familiar with the 5' tall lady and her patient Collie walking through the Broadview section of Warrensburg. Her final days was spent watching "The Dog Whisperer" and smiling and remembering the Chihuahuas, Beagles, Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers, Collies, Cairn Terriers and mixed breeds she had owned for 85 years.

Pat is survived by her sons, Dave (Rhonda) of Blue Springs, Steve (Shelly) of Higginsville and Mark (Nancy) of Lee's Summit, three grandchildren, Laylan Pennel, Morgan Hecker and Joshua Hecker, a great grand-granddaughter, Marlowe, 5 nephews and 6 nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. George Hecker, her parents and three siblings.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a service on March 26, 2026 at Bethel Baptist Church, N. Hwy 13, Warrensburg, MO. Interment will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Dave Hecker, Steve Hecker, Mark Hecker, Josh Hecker, Doug Pence and Steve Linville.
