Patsy Annell Price Smith, age 81, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022 in Nacogdoches, Texas. She is survived by her three daughters and their families Tanya and Gary Shelton of Fredericksburg, Gina and Chris Oglesbee of Nacogdoches, and Vicki Smith of Austin. "Mami" leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Kristen and Dylan Ederer and great grandson Shipley of Austin, James David "Jim" Oglesbee of Shreveport, LA, and Samantha Shelton of Nacogdoches. She also has three bonus grandsons Andy, Adam, and Alex Shelton.
Patsy was born August 29, 1941 in Bonham, Texas and was the only child of Earl and Dovie Price. The Price's operated a grocery store and attended the Christian Church in Ravenna, Texas. Patsy grew up playing with her cousins in the country. She attended school in Savoy, Texas where she participated in basketball and was the Valedictorian of her 1959 senior class. Patsy became a legal secretary in Sherman, Texas after high school.
Patsy met the love of her life, Lyndel David Smith, their senior year of high school as he attended another school. Patsy and David married February 20, 1960 at the Christian Church in Ravenna with Patsy wearing a wedding dress made by her mother. Through marriage, Patsy received a host of brothers and sisters since David was one of eleven children. The Smiths began their family and with three young daughters moved back to Bonham, Texas and attended the First Christian Church where Patsy served as a Sunday School teacher and Christian Women's Fellowship President. Patsy was a homemaker when the girls were young and later rejoined the workforce working for a cable company and Dow Chemical. David's career in banking brought the family from Bonham to Buffalo and then to San Augustine.
Patsy was active in the community and her daughters' activities. She volunteered as a coach of city league basketball, served as a Camp Fire Girl leader, room mom, and VBS leader. Patsy was a member of the Bonham Story League and the Jaycee Wives. She was an active member and President of the San Augustine Garden Club. She was the founding editor of the Oakwood Christian Church newsletter. Patsy was the most loyal member of the First Christian Church Nacogdoches Thursday Lunch Bible Study for 17 years.
Patsy and David both played golf. She was a member of the Crown Colony Ladies Golf Association in Lufkin. They retired to Crown Colony and traveled extensively in the United States to play golf. Patsy loved to be with her family and was the biggest fan of her grandchildren's sports and activities. She took trips and cruises with her daughters to St. Martin and Cozumel among other places. As a hobby, she loved to chronicle the family memories in photo albums which the family refers to as the "archives."
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband David of 62 years. David passed away on August 13, 2022 and shortly after Patsy joined him in Heaven. They were separated only one month on earth and then joined together in eternity; a love story for the ages.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband's parents Willie A. and Sallie Jo Smith, David's brothers Dale, Glenn, Joe, Wetzel, and Mike Smith, and his sisters Sue King and Linda Rogers. In addition to her family herein, she is survived by David's sisters Ann Brown Pitcock and Sherrill and husband Vince Hash, and his brother Ronnie and wife Shari, and spouses of his siblings, Kenneth King, Paula Smith, Linda Smith, Billy Rogers, and Glenda Smith and numerous adored nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates contributions to First Christian Church of Nacogdoches, Texas, and the Alzheimer's Association.
